Good racing gauntlet gloves? - December 18, 2007, 10:58 AM

It's time for me to ditch my old ass wrecked Joe Rocket Speedmaster gloves. Any recommendations on good racing gauntlet gloves?

Fru to the above. Am love my helds.

Just a note I measured my hands and it said to go 8.5, I was just, just barely over the line from the 8.0's. I should have gone with the 8.0's, the 8.5s arnt lose, but I think the 8.0's would have been just that much more snug, you know to give me that warm tingly feeling deep inside.

HELD gloves are overpriced imo. I ripped-up a pair pretty good years ago, but I was sliding on my hands at high speed across the track. The seams were not as strong as they should have been, but there was plenty of padding that stayed fairly in place. Less importantly, except for the 'Galaxy' model (I think), Held gloves look like what Freddie would have worn back in the eighties. The gauntlets are usually more akin to Marvel Comics costume. You need a gauntlet of course, but not one more than 6 inches long.

My Joe Rocket gloves are comfortable, but the palms roll a little, and they don't feel like they'd do as well in a crash. Plus, there are three places to velcro on each hand. That's annoying at 'third and final call.'

Rob,
I have a brand new pair of A* GP Techs, size XL.
I love the gloves, they just don't fit me.
Let me know if you are interested.
I have a pair of the new Speedmasters, I like them.

OK I will defend Held gloves. They are very well made and I speak from using them 3 times slidin across the pavement. My Akira's held up great in a 40mph hit and slide except the seam were I smacked on the pavement. It did split open about a 1/4 inch but I had no damage to my hand. I also like the padding they use to protect the outside wrist. I am sure I would have broken my hand had it not been for these gloves. I also use Tecknic and am not impressed cause after about 1 month of use they are coming apart. I think Tecknic gloves look funny as hell too. I have been using Helds for 15 years and will comtinue there use. Remeber if you buy cheap gloves you get cheap gloves. A* make some nice gloves too but I have not crash tested my motard ones yet! They are holding up to everyday use though.

MotoGP makes a nice glove. They fit really really well. Held seriously felt like I had a goddamn 14 oz steak wrapped around my hand and they wanted $300... teknic makes a great glove too.

Just to ask a couple questions. A brand new soft thin glove will not last long nor protect you in the event of a crash. I have about 5 pairs of Held gloves that are nice and broken in if anyone wants to see them. How do you guys judge a glove? If anyone has had a wreck in one what happend to it? Yes Held gloves take some breakin in but so do good leathers. Yes they have some bulky wrist protection but most GP gloves do now adays. That is the new trend. Also do you look for pinky protection like a double wrap? Not trying to start shit but I really want to know how you pick a glove and say weather its bad or good. I do buy alot of gloves from different makers and check them out. I have bought almost 10 pairs of gloves this year alone just to find the perfect pair. And yes they are Helds and A* right now.
