Helmet painting - April 2, 2012, 09:07 PM

Evening,

I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions on where one might have their helmet painted in Northern Virginia. I am not looking to have any design or artwork airbrushed on it; just looking to have it painted silver or white.

Thanks in advance.

If you're doing a single solid color, rattle can it yourself.

Get some prep wipes and clean thoroughly, a can of primer, a can of color, and a can of clear or matte clear depending on the finish you want to achieve.

Hold the can 8 inches away, smooth, even overlapping strokes and you should be good to go.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

- Nicolo Machiavelli 1469-1527

Caution: some rattle can solvents will actually make your helmet weaker, so I would do some research before choosing what you spray there.

This. I read an article somewhere testing this but can't remember which mag. They showed that some paints would seep and weaken the underlying structure

I wouldn't paint my helmet without doing some serious research. Just a few impact absorption reduction percents can be the difference between life and death based on the situation.
