You’ve got to love the ignorance in that statement. I'd rather wear a $200 helmet that fits my head than a $600 one that doesn't.

I've had good luck with the way the AC line has fit my head. I've used an AC-10, I currently use an AC-11 and I'll be on the look out for an AC-12 soon. I've crash tested a CL-12 in a highside and it held up very well.

Snell writes reviews too...

So does Ebert and Roper.... do you take their word as gospel too?

Bottom line... if someone's writing a review, or performing a review... It's all their opinion.

IMO: Find one that fits your head, is comfortable, and is at least DOT approved... ECE is a + IMO

Black has it right ... read the review. Of course all mfg say theirs is the best. Read the independant tester results to see what you think. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/ge...helmet_review/ I had a HJC CL-SP but it just never seemed to fit right. I got a Arai later on and the fit is so much better. Have the dealer measure your head and check for fit. As much of a pro as we all think we are all mfg have differents specs for different sizes.

agian, if price is not the issue get what fits you best. Wear the lid around the store for 30 min. If they will let you test ride it. My Nolan worked well on one bike but the other it would try to lift my head off my shoulders.

Don't ask what others think. Ask what problems they have had. Helmets have to meet DOT and most exceed that. I am not too kneen on Snell after reading the Hurt report and the Motorcyclist piece. The brits have the prolly the best rating system.

GET WHAT YOU LIKE.

I just (on monday) crash tested an AC something, 11 maybe, not sure. Gave my head a pretty good wack and I'm fine. No concussion or other head like problems. It seems to me that the $100-$200 (DOT approved and all that of course) will protect you just as well as a $500 helmet. The $500 helmet will be much quieter and more comfortable. That said, any helmet you wear should fit well, if it doesn't try out a different brand, they all fit a bit differently.

What you are paying for on a $600 helmet vs. a $200 helmet are usually ammenities. Aria has the visor vents, shoei has the chin curtain, soumi has flowers and panda bears all over it. Some manufacturers produce an inferior helmet as well and there are a lot of things to consider in a helmet. Comfort and fit is going to be your primary one.

You can have the most expensive, most luxuriously built helmet, and if fits incorrectly or is sized wrong you can do serious damage to your head and brain.

Read the write up and you will see the science component of the article. Their write up was not an opinion piece.

There are several top level racers that disagree with that statement. Both of my helmets now are Arai RX7s (I basically paid a few hundred extra dollars for pretty graphics and very very slighty more comfort), but if I was in the market for a new one right now I'd pick up one of those AC-12 carbons. Nice looking lid, and the fit is nearly as comfortable as my Arais. Just bought my wife a new helmet, and it's an AC-12. I trust it to protect the mother of my children.
