Just picked up my helmet from Peter Frechette in Silver Spring... this is the third helmet I have had painted by him...

What do you think?

Not bad Ed! I like the racing stripes he put on it, too! It will def stand out when racing on the track.

Frechette is the shit. He does all of Richard's dome protectors.

Thanks.. he is easy to work with.. I swear, he does his best work when you give him a couple elements to work with and let him run with it...I gave him the twin stripes, the dragons and the colors, and he ran with it.. I was stunned at how well it turned out...

If anyone needs his contact info to do a helmet... let me know... I will gladly pass it along...

You asked for opinions so... I'd say the flames from the dragons needs a lot more depth. They look flat especially when contrasted to blue "blades" throughout the helmet. The color of the flames is also "cheap looking" in comparison to the dragons and rest of the work. Not saying it's a bad job, just that it needs a bit of a touch-up.

I did use the Shoei Kagayama helmet as a base idea for it... I liked the design, but finding one for <$800-900 (if I could even find one) was getting me nowhere....

I have had good luck with the HJC helmets, plus they fit me pretty good too....so I got a plain white RPS-10 model and went to Pete... total cost came in under the $800 ish for a Kagayama...including the price for the HJC...

Pete charged me $500 for the paint job..... seeing the work he put into it, I defintely didn't have a problem paying that price for it... he did a lot of free hand airbrush and paintbrush work on this one...

I do know that how much it costs depends on how elaborate you want to go....
