Leather suit: One-piece or two? - November 8, 2010, 03:27 PM

I'm shopping around for a suit to use on the track next year. My current favorite is the A-stars GP Pro which is offered in one-piece or two (same price).

Since this is the first suit I'm buying, I'd appreciate some advice from the experts. Is the one-piece suit a safer option for the track? Are two-piece suits known to come apart when you hit the pavement? Pardon my ignorance.

for the streets and track days Id say 2 piece....
for track only Id say 1 piece.

Ive used both, crashed both and all of them hold up.
I have 3 2piece suites and crashed every last one of them...and i mean Hard.
They all hold up.

boils down to your comfort.

I'm no expert, and I know you asked for one, but I think I'd personally feel safer on track in a 1-piece. But I'm sure most of the manuf's, especially A-Star, make great 2-piece suits too.

I have my street gear, then I have my track gear. Call me weird. Call it wasting money. Whatever. I love my 1-piece. I feel like a rock star when I wear it.

There is zero advantage to buying a 2-piece. It is pointless. I realized this after I bought my first suit which was a 2 piece. I would never buy 2 piece again.

Are you gonna wear leather pants by themselves? Or the ill fitting jacket by itself? You won't.

1 piece is more comfortable also.

+1 my first suit was a 2 piece, mistake. 1 piece is the way to go.

I am also in the market so I will ask this:

I have been told that a 2 piece will allow me to wear the jacket in the summer when it is too hot to wear both jacket and pants, or a 1 piece.

Would you agree or would you suggest buying another jacket for summer street riding?

Also, does the jacket of a 2 piece fit differently than a regular jacket? You said "ill fitting". Just wanna know what you meant.

yes, the jacket portion of a two piece usually fits differently than a regular jacket and never well enough be comfortable by itself.

If the jacket of a 2 piece doesnt fit the same as regular jacket, this makes my decision pretty easy; 1 piece.

Strange that I have never heard (or ridden with anyone wearing the jacket of a 2 piece) that has said this before but I can see how it may be true.

Thanks for the response.

Funny how people say fuck the 2 piece but when I use mine everyone want to know who makes it cause when it is 100 degs out and inbetween sessions I can take the jacket off easy while leaving the pants on. If you were racing go with a 1 piece. I have a Vanson one and love it but for track days and street riding get a good 2 piece and rock it. The jacket fits good without the pants and the pants fit good with another jacket also. My 2 piece was made for KTM by Joe Rocket back when they made good shit.

Ok, you fuckers are confusing me...

I thought a 2 piece would be better like dodge said...but the others say 2 piece is no good for using the jacket by itself because of the fit.

You motherfuckers need to huddle up and give me your final answer!

Take it for however you want. I have both and use both but for different reasons. If I was racing only then yes a 1 piece only. But for track days and street ridin no question for a 2 piece.

I will be using it for 4 track days a year and street riding like I stole it.

Sounds like a 2 piece will suffice...pending Birdman's post. LOL!

as with all things, YMMV...for me, to get a two piece that isn't a saggy sack of shit fitwise, the jackets never fit well enough to wear without the pants. I also never found myself in a situation where I wouldn't have just worn a one piece

Bingo...

and no body mentioned mines...

My current uniforms are both Astars.

a one piece and a two piece.

I use my one piece for race/trackdays only (and gunnrunnz).
The 2 piece I use for streets use as a jacket only, or jacket and leather pants.
The jacket fits just like any other jacket. and when combined with the leather zip up good also.

Ive worn my 2 piece for track days and races also, especialy if the one piece got soak the day before.

Now I think the problem is the super cheap 2 pieces. 2 piece Suites under $600 might not fit well as a jacket only... You get what you pay for.

2 piece Alpine star with leather pants...fit is great...

I couldnt find a picture of me with just the jacket on...but its made to be a jacket first and zip in pants secondary. I had some old 2 pieces that were short and felt wierd as hell and unprotected. Try 2 pieces on b4 you buy.

As far as one piece suits go...they feel better on the track because you dont have the thinkness around the hip waist area...and it keeps the back pulled down very well... I will say that 1 peice feels better, but its the worst pain in the ass durring summer. Not as many pockets, harder to get in and out of.

This is the same as my 2 piece...just the one piece version. I only brought it because I got it on close out.
