Looking to buy a new helmet - July 11, 2006, 04:27 PM

I need to buy a new helmet and not trying to drop $700 on one.

I'm a huge Arai fan as they have always fit my basketball head the best and have always come through when my head kisses the track...but what else would you recommend?
I don't have the $600-$700 to spend on a new helmet. Looking to spend no more than $500!!

I like the looks of the KBC and some AGV and HJC helmets.

Would appreciate any pictures, prices, suggestions on various helmets for racing.

I have a KBC racer 1 It started to fall apart inside 6 months and its noiey as hell. Arais can be found under 500 it just takes some looking and time.

Thanks!
I know they hold up well in crashes as a friend of mine verified that for me (Unfortunately)

The HJC AC-12 Carbon is actually pretty heavy. I was going to get one until I tried it on.
I highly recommend the Shoei RF-1000. It's easy to swap shields, they are lightweight, vent well, come with a chin skirt and fog guard, and have a good warranty policy.
Check some of them out at www.helmetharbor.com - I have had very good luck buying helmets from them. Hope that helps.

I say the Shoei RF-1000, awesome helmet. Crash tested a RF-900 and I was very happy it was on my head. The first thing that hit the ground was the side of my head. held up very well and I only had a crook in my neck after the get off. BTW I played football all through college so I am used to taking blows to the head with a helmet on. I also think that is one reason I did not black out or anything.

OVER? did you say "Over"? Nothing is over until we decide its over, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell No!!!

Hey on the agv or shark , I am a local dealer and I have agv shark and arai in stock to try on. I have been wearing shark helmets for 2 years and probably the only other helmet i would wear is an arai. Novarc51 racer if you want an arai give me a call I am sure I can get you one within your price range.

I've heard AGV is really good, but have been told their sizing is WAY off.
I'll vouche for the shark... it's leet.
