I have the Alpinestars GP Plus gloves. Kinda $$ but they are holding up nicely after two seasons.

Did they change them for 05 James? Only problem I have with mine is that the black has faded some. On a couple places the kevlar stiching looks like it is coming loose. I'm guessing another good year of riding and I'll need another pair.

I've been wearing Teknic Speedstar gloves for 4 years now and I wouldn't wear anything else. I always have issues finding gloves that fit, I always end up with too much material on the index finger. These fit great.

They also have Kangaroo skin in the palms. Brand new, this feels like broken in comfortable leather. The first pair I had lasted 2 years and that was with about 200 miles a day during the last year. The pair I have now still look and feel as good as when I bought them. They hold up great over time.

The padding and protection on these gloves are great. I'll just let you read their site and let that speak for itself. The only draw back is the price tag, but you get what you pay for.
