Need help/suggestions with looking for & buying new gear. - May 20, 2008, 01:08 PM

Alright so I know full well that i need to upgrade my riding gear from the standard beginner stuff. I'm looking to get leather stuff...whether that be a jacket and then pants seperate, a 2 piece suit (for rides...not track), etc. Bottom line is I know i need quality protection, and it's time to pony up and get it.

For a jacket i was looking at something on the ever-so-relaxed side. Something like this Icon jacket is what i was thinking about: http://www.rideicon.com/product_deta...y=1237&id=5763 - but i've read complaints about no collar. Thoughts?

For boots i was looking at some stuff from A*'s: http://www.alpinestars.com/SMX_4_Boo.../p/222306.html or even http://www.alpinestars.com/Recon_Wat.../p/244306.html

That's what i've been looking at. Please share your thoughts, suggestions, and opinions, cause i dont have the same amount of experience as any of you, so it would be greatly appreciated! Also places to buy/order from would be killer too! BIG BIG thanks in advance!

Somewhere on here in the very recent past there is a thread that backs up this statement with pictures. Jeans don't protect you. Get lether pants or a a suit.

I like the no collar jackets! The collar is good for winter and during the summer makes it a little warm. The boots are nice. Also try Sidi and Garnae boots. I have them both and are very good and light weight. What gloves are you rocking? I suggest A* or Helds. I have both and really only trust the Helds. The A* are ok for a quick ride and to keep cool but the Helds are the best. Never been down in an Icon jacket so I am not sure how it will hold up but cheap is cheap and good jackets like Vanson, First Gear and Moto GP cost quite a bit but are worth it. If you want stop by RnR cycles and talk to me or Rick and have a look at our gear.

Sidi boots are the best. Vanson is great, but pricey. There are lots of other options too - don't go for the bottom of the product line through any manufacturer... usually shit gear.
