I've got one. They are pretty decent in design and fit. They are equal to Shoei IMO. Difficult to find shields and tear-offs over here though. The tear-offs are full size and cover the entire shiled. This is important to me because I have a clear shield on mine and dark tinited tear-off which I'd like to replace now.

Here's what I've got...

speednuts, so do you think they are worth the price. its either the OGK or another Arai. i'm thinking about getting this one:

btw, this company sells tearoffs for it. it also comes in silver mirror!! pretty cool.

They are good helmets but as I said about like a Shoei not an Arai. Arai IMO is the best there is. More features, more sizes, more accessories, more readily avaiable and....more expensive. But hey, you won't be complaiing about the cost of a lid after you go down will you?

Here's my lid...no copying

those are pretty sweet. I always have to reply to helmet threads tho...if a hemet is snell approved, its snell approved. There is not going to be a safety diff. between two snell helmets, no matter what. Anyone who has worked retail hard goods can tell you guys what the markup is. I say, buy the hemet that turns you on. Just don't kid yourself that spending more$$ will get you more helmet. just my .02

Mmmmm, not sure about that last statement. One thing that you get with Arai that you don't get with lesser (cheaper) helmets is fit and finish, features and function.

Fit, because Arai offers more lines of helmet types for different shaped heads ie. Signet vs Quantum vs Astral, etc They even have differnt sized cheek pads you can readily find at most dealers to get an even better custom fit.

Finish because Arai has the tightest quality control of all helmet manufacturers. The vents don't come loose, fall off or open on their own like some other helmets I have. The chin straps are easy to deal with the excess flap. You want a frustrating experience? Try putting on an OGK and securing the excess strap (and the strap is excessively long) to the snap. It's almost up inside the helmet by your ear! If you don't fasten it, it is annoying at speed as that excess strap can flap around and whip the sh_t out of your neck. Finish on any Arai helmet you pick up is top rate. Period. I've seen variances from other manufacturers.

Features as in removable liner, locking shield, shield vents, better anti-fog design (something Shoeis are bad about) etc.

Function because everything works on the Arai helmets ie vents, shield lock, quick release shield. I've seen other helmets where the vents were useless and changing a shield was a chore recquiring tools.

Just my .02

Amendment - I agree w/speednuts. I was really just tryin to say the safety of the helmet is not commensurate to the price. That said...my new hjc CL12 looks cool, fits great, is a pain to switch visors on and cost me $169

Umm, I don't know of any tear-offs which will help you in a knife attack.

Also you will need a shield with the tear-off posts. Does HJC even make one? If they do, Fast Lanes has tear-offs or you can order them over the net from places like Helmet Harbor, etc.

You know what? Scratch that previous comment. I think this is a much more importatnt topic: How often do you let the little tyke so around weilding a knife!? Jeez, when I was in Kinderkarten I thought all I had to worry about was the kid with GI Joe and his Kung Foo Fist but you've got the miniature Rambo thing going! Is he packing heat too? :o

My little Marine I am grooming him for killing. A two year old packing heat yeah right...... He has a bazooka just blow em all up I say. Why get just one or two.
Umm, Mr. Cplr6, sir, I would just like to clarify my previous statement. You see, sir, Mr. Cplr6 what I was trying to say is.....ah f_ck it! Bring it on little man! I've got a straw and some balled up paper...looks like spit-ball time to me!

Anyway, tear-offs will help prevent against minor nicks and scratches and help keep the shield clean from bugs and such. They attach via two posts on either side of the visor and just pop off when you grab the tab on the left side and pull it. They are about $5 for a pack of 10 shields but as I said you will need a shield with tear-off posts.

Yeah, but your talking about playing with the real thing. ie. USS Iowa, USS North Carolina, USS Vincenes, USS Enterprise, etc...no thanks! I think Bin Laden might take you up on a game though. I'll just catch it all on CNN.

I tried a bunch of these on when I was in London.

They are kinda cool, but they are nothing special.

I wasn't impressed with the colors and designs. I think they look better in photos than in real life.
