Open Face helmet recommendations - August 1, 2013, 06:59 PM

Now that I have a scooter to cruise around town I am looking to buy a more comfortable helmet. I was looking at the Bell Custom 500, but after reading reviews it appears it has more of a round shape, but my head is more oval shaped. Anybody have any recommendations on a safe and nice looking helmet that sells for $100 or less?

I'll take a trip down to my local motorcycle shop this weekend to try some on, but their stock is probably going to be limited.

For reference this is a Bell Custom 500:

*I understand that an open face helmet is inherently not as safe as a full-face helmet.*

Speed and Strength SS600 Speed Shop Helmet - RevZilla

I'm not sure about the safety, but it looks cool and is intermediate oval and under $100!

I would go modular I ride a scooter every now and again and the risk between the scoot and my sport bike doesn't change. Get used to being cut off and merged into without the power to make evasive maneuvers.

I've weighed the risks vs gains as far as safety goes and I've decided to get an Open Face helmet. I just barely can't fit my Shoei RF-1100 in the under seat storage, and that capability is a huge thing for me. However, I do know an Open Face helmet will fit.

Thanks man! I don't know why I didn't think to check Revzilla's video reviews.

So, after talking to someone at Revzilla I think the AFX FX-76 is the helmet for me. It's nice and light, and should be the right shape for my dome.
