ridersdiscount.net horrible return policy - March 31, 2012, 10:35 AM

Has anyone else encountered this? I have been buying from ridersdiscount.net for years now and have been really happy with their pricing. For once I decided I was just let down by the product i purchased and returned the item. I paid for return shipping out of my pocket. The Item was originally shipped to me for free but when I returned it, the refund was the item price minus some arbitrary "shipping cost" to them. How are you going to tact on a shipping cost to something you shipped for free? It cost me ~$12 to ship it back to them, but they took ~$10 off my refund? This is just not cool! Edit, i misspoke, they took about $10 off the refund.

Well a lot of places that have free shipping do deduct money from the credit for the original shipping fee, or a "restocking fee". Dono how big it was, but $30 does sound like a lot.

I misspoke, they took ~$10 off the refund, but if the products in "new" condition there should be no restocking fee. I wish they would clearly lay this out on there site. When i asked them on the phone about refunds, they're like yeh well take care of you, just pay return shipping back.

Iv only bought from one other bike apparel place online, and they never had a restocking fee.

Its a cost of doing business online, since they save so much by not having a brick and mortar store.

Anyways I think I will start buying from local stores now.

Its hard to go to colemans with internet price, because ridersdicount will qoute you a better price over the phone then online every time.

Well restocking fee applies to "new condition items" its to cover the administrative fees and such - not all places have them, but some do. the cost savings of not having a brick store is being passed to you, that is why it is not as expensive as something in a store.

I was looking at something from them on Ebay and it does call out this return policy:
Buyers are responsible for all shipping charges to exchange or return an item. For returned items, original 'free shipping' freight charges will be deducted from the refunded price

i just order from other sites and pay the little bit extra.
