Smile Scorpion helmets - July 7, 2008, 11:33 PM

I just got a new helmet i sold my shoie and i got a Scorpion Exo 400 its DOT and Snell so it should be good it was about 245 at colemans. Whats your thoughts on that helmet? My friend Scott who has been riding for years has an Aria and a Scorpion and he said they are good for the price but i just wanted to make sure im well protected. I know its Scorpions entry level helmet but the reviews i found were all good and they said that its the most value and quality for the price.

Most, if not all, of the Boogie racers race in Exo700s. Craig loves his. I haven't heard any complaints from them about fit or protection, and the easiest face plate change system of any of the helmets he's had over the last few years.

2 of my friends got that helmet and they like it but they never crash tested it so guess you gotta take 70 mph on 66 as a good helmet!

Yeah, you can get the EXO-1000 for about $280 if you look around. Payed a bit too much for it, but either way it's a good helmet and an excellent price.

Tested the 700 series a couple of times. Very good and best fitting helmet I've ever owned.

Don't let price fool you into thinking it amounts to quality.

Scorpion rated 416/500 in fit, performance, and quality. Aria rated 418/500.

It vents slightly better.... enjoy paying $300 extra for that... and have fun changing the face shields (I personally know four people who've busted them changing from a smoke to clear or vice versa).

The RX-7 vents a TON better than the EXO-700, feels lighter on your head, and is far more comfortable to wear (the liner is far higher quality).

I own both and love the 700 (heck it's what I was wearing when I crashed even) but the Arai is certainly a higher quality helmet overall.

For trackdays safety should be the big concern and there I don't really more or less safe in either and certainly I like the price tag of the Scorpions if I wreck (which certainly has a higher probability on the track). But for street riding and putting down a lot of miles, especially in the summer, that extra $300 for an Arai (you can get an RX-7 for $450) may very well be worth it since it will last you 5 years assuming you keep it on two wheels.

Oh and the 400 and 700 are virtually identical helmets but the 1000 is in a different league (and not a good one imo, it's overweight and the tint shield is a gimmick) so be careful about comparing them.

But paying $245 for a $120 helmet is a bit painful

I've got an RSX and I love it. Don't know much about Scorpion.
