Senna Bluetooth - July 21, 2014, 08:19 PM

Anyone use one of these bluetooth things? My main question is how loud are they? Can use it with earplugs in?

They are very loud when turned up all the way.

I would advise against the 10R.

It has a very short battery life. Like 3-5 hours compared to the regular 10 which has anywhere from 10-14 hours from my experience.

I have the Sena SMH-10. It's not super loud but according to reviews that's as loud as it's going to get. Actually the phone calls are very nice and loud especially considering the straight through exhaust and no wind protection with my shorty screen and I'm always amazed the people don't realize I'm speaking to them from my bike. However the music through the bluetooth is not very loud. It drowns out if I'm going over 65mph and this without any ear buds.

turkish - is the volume on your phone turned up all the way? I rode the FZ-09 yesterday and had no problems hearing my music at 75 mph with earplugs in.

However, I can't hear audiobooks.

Volume is at max on both my iPhone and the Sena. It would be nice if it went to 11 but... oh well.

Phone calls while on the CBR weren't a problem. Didn't try one yesterday on the FZ.

I have the Sena SMH10R Universal Mount. I use it on a Shoei J-Cruise 3/4 face helm. It helps a whole lot if your helmet has the cutouts in or around the area of your ear for the mounting of helmet speakers or whatever you want to call them.

The audio suffers though so if you are an aficionado of good sound you will be disappointed with nearly every helmet Bluetooth set. They tend to sound very 'tinny' lack any bass and compress a narrow frequency range. The Cardo Systems Bluetooth sets are about the same.

Some people think the large size of the Sena unit make it look like a helmet wart. I kind of like it because it is easy to find with your hand. It will play music for about 11 hours with no issues - at least mine will. The Sena likes to be a 'hub' for Bluetooth devices and has problems with used with a Garmin 665 and a cell phone.

Actually it's weird... if it's an MP3 audiobook, I can hear it just fine. If it's a WMA audiobook, not so much. But either way, it's pointless because I'm riding and paying attention to the asinine shit going on around me so I miss what's going on in the book.

Valid point! My Shoei has the cut outs so nothing is blocking the speakers.

Yep the volume is up all the way and the speakers are in the special pocket that Arai has created on their helmets which is really close to my ears. I have no idea why they designed it that way. Maybe to save battery? However, the exhaust on my multi is uuuber loud.

Like I said the volume is super loud when on the phone. When the music is playing it's definitely turned down.

Turk, they make some velcro pads that make the speakers go closer to your head.

I have the Scala G9x that I use pretty much daily on my commutes. I gotta say, the volume for Calls is pretty fantastic, even at about 80-90 mph on my SV with a Yosh. When it comes to music its not the best. Im actually looking into buying a set of Koss Porta Pros, and a small amp and then solder the Porta Pros on the Scala.

I'll check them out. The Arai RXQ has the insert areas that bring it really close to your ear as is. Maybe I'm going deaf
