Shoei Neotec vs Multitec - April 9, 2013, 11:03 AM

So, Shoei's have always been out of my reach because of cost. I'm in the market for a convertible / flip face helmet (so that, during and after demos, i can be heard by my students, as well as taking a drink easily on long rides).

I would like to hear opinions. Obviously, the multitec has been around a little longer and the neotec is supposed to be nicer. Either, I think, is nicer than the exo 900 I was considering.

Is the multitec a good lid, or should I spend the extra money for the neotec? Timeframe is right AFTER the cicadas. LOL

Looks like I should spend the extra money and get the neotec

That looks like a really nice helmet

I know you're specifically asking about the shoei helmets but, since Nolan have gotten the flip up thing down I have not looked back. I don't personally see the benefit in spending the extra on the shoei. The N104 is available in yellow, albeit not hi-viz. Just throwing this out there.

I got the Neotec Borealis... I love it
there was a group buy on ADV rider saved me alot of money.
Just save up you will not regret it. Very solid helmet and it comes with the pin lock anti fog which has worked flawlessly this winter.
The tinted flip visor is very useful as well, I hated changing visors all the time (who doesnt)
I was extremely close to pulling the trigger on the multitec, I tried it on and I liked it but the Neotec its just superior in so many ways.

That review looks good but if it has 300% more ventilation that it's probably not quieter unfortunately. It's a give and take even with the more expensive helmets. You either have quiet or you have good ventilation. Hard to get both.

I had a Nolan back in '05. The visor did not fit well. It leaked like a sieve and whistled enough to drive me batty on long rides. On a cross country ride, I stopped in a shop in Cali for service and left the Nolan with them and bought a Shoei Multitec. Wore that for several years then bought a Scorpion 900. I hated it. Too heavy and did not fit well. Only wore it a month or so. Still have it in the box if anyone is interested in it. I went back to Shoei and bought the Neotec. I love it. I was told to get a Schuberth C3 and never look back. But it was more money than I wanted to spend.

Todd has the NeoTec (as you know since you've been texting him about it). We have the Sena communicators. I hear hardly any wind noise coming through. Granted he's also on that rolling Samsonite with the adjustable windscreen...

He's never complained about noise or air leaks. My Shoei RF-1100 OTOH... I'm constantly fighting a whistling noise through the shield. Never had this problem on previous Shoeis. But I just learned that the pivot points are adjustable so I may try that to see if I can get the shield to seat better.

the neotec apparently has a real trick two stage gasket for the shield.

I want it bad. Senas too... but the funds aren't there yet

I do not have one of the flip up Shoei but I have had over 10 Shoei's and just ordered the GT Air. By far the wind noise is my biggest issue when riding and with their top line models I have never had a problem. Even the VFX-W dirt bike helmet is quite IMO.
