Question Thoughts on Held "Phantom" Gloves - June 13, 2007, 01:19 PM

I've been looking at the Phantom gloves made by Held. Does anyone own a pair of these? What do you think? Are they worth the $250 price tag?

Don't own a "Phantom" but own several other Held gloves. If you don't mind coughing up the dough - they are ALL excellent quality.

Yaomatt and Dana both have them. I have the next step down,Akria, and I love them. Been using helds gloves for over 10 years and they hold up great in a crash. I just gave my 10 old pair to a friend who will not buy gloves and they still hold together and have been sliding across the pavement at over 80 mph with little marks. You got the money then get them.

They are my next set of gloves. Everyone I know that owns a set refuses to wear anything else.

I considered them earlier this year when I was buying a new pair but I got another pair of Teknic SpeedStar instead. Phantoms may be my next.

I've tried on lots of gloves, only owned the Phantoms, and two pairs of joe rocket gloves so my comparison wouldn’t be as broad as a review would hope for.

Was there something you want to know about specifically?

Worth $250? probably not... but they're one of the top 3 gloves made in the world and since i make money with my hands and 10 fingers, the safety factor is important to me.

They're super comfy and oddly cool in the summer heat. They also fit wonderfully, unlike any other glove I’ve tried on - and they fit even better once they're broken in and been through a few rain storms to 'mold' to your hand shape.

YaoMatt has tested the "stingray" fabric protection they have on palm pad and 2nd knuckles... its supposedly impossible to grind through it at land speeds.

They also have a wonderful little strip of rubber on the left hand finger to squeegee your visor in the rain - i know its a simple pleasure but its so worth getting gloves with it if you plan on riding year round.

I have a pair and love them! Great grip even in pouring rain. The squeegee is an awesome feature. It has perforations between the fingers and on top just in front of the wrist to help cool them a bit in hot weather.

That'd be me.

Only complaint is that the leather wears quickly on the palms if you do all season/all weather riding in them.

Plus, you can find them for a lot less than 250 if you're patient and look around.

I'd rather have a new set of tires for that price.

But...whatever your Visa supports.

Call up Sree at motoneko, maybe he can undercut the online prices.
