Time for me to get a suit. - August 12, 2010, 01:37 PM

I'll be buying my first leather suit sometime next month so it's time to start doing my research. Here are my stats:

5' 9"
165 lbs (was 145 lbs for most my adult life)
38" chest
32" waist
I consider myslef thin, but my mid section is where i'm gaining the weight.

Can someone similar in build give me some suggestions on sizing and anything else I need to keep in mind when shopping?

I think I'd ideally like a 2-piece, perforated suit and don't want to spend more than $700 or so unless I'm getting a killer deal on a +1k suit.

Do they come in 2-piece flavors? I can only find 1-piece violators.

Which one do you have, Dan? The Octane, or the SP-1?

yup.. im about your size and wear a teknic violater 42.. i THINK?? I'll have to check when i get home.. I know teknic had sizing issues pre 2008.. so all of there suits were sized small.. so a 44 was actually a 42...

So i think my tag says 44 but it fits like a 42..

Teknic makes great affordable suits.. i've been down twice in mine and its still great..

Rick from rnr has had quite a few crashes in his and its still fine..

600killer had a pretty bad spill in his too..

They get my vote..

Alpinestars in a USA42 or EURO 52 would fit you real well. Most european made suits would fit you well. Wait for the closeout deals at season's end in winter.

A co-worker has a Joe Rocket Speedmaster suit he hasn't used in ages in a 42 for cheap, 1 piece but GP armor, 1.7mm thick leather. This suit came out in (I think) 2003 or 2004, received very good reviews from people about suit survival in crashes, well known to crash well. He even has the SPIDI Air back protector CE level-1 that he needs to sell off.. NEVER crashed either.

Just trying to help everyone out.

You'll be fine with a Bionic vest, I'm a 42 and wear the vest just fine.

Before I picked up my one piece I was using my Joe Rocket Speedmaster 2 pc. Comfortable and good setup, but love my 1 piece way more. The JR wasnt too much $$.

I loooove my 2 piece fieldsheer Revo. Ehh "heard good things" I have crash tested this suit twice, and 2 other Fieldsheer jackets. The mesh one did OK (but it's mesh...what do you expect) but all the others held up great. I picked my suit up for right around $400. I like that I can wear just the jacket when out on the cruiser. It's perforated and I can tell the difference when moving. I'm not a huge fan of A* stuff as I had a few items rip or not hold well in crashes (yes I crash a lot)

Then again... That's just me.

And now...The dancing Banana:
