Crash in DC last night. - September 19, 2006, 07:59 AM

I'll start our by saying that the rider was ok. I was sitting in my office when I heard the collision. Thought it was strange, because I usually hear tires squealing, and this time there was nothing. Looked out my window and saw a rider standing in the middle of the road, a bike wadded up on the curb and a taxi in the middle of the road.

Rider amazingly escaped with only some minor bumps even though he was only wearing a t-shirt, jeans, helmet and gloves. Don't remember footwear. Don't know how fast the guy was going, but a taxi heading southbound on 14th St. made a left to pull into the J. W. Marriott in front of a bike heading northbound on 14th St.

Worst part is that the guy riding behind him on another bike owned the bike, the rider that crashed was test riding it, and I don't think he got any cash from the guy up front. May or may not have been the cabs fault, but still.

I found one for him, but when I called him he said he was already set. This wasn't an intersection, which makes it worse.

There is a reason why the taxis in DC are referred to as "Cab Assassins". They even say so right on their doors usually...(cab assn).

Glad that dude is alright.

damn it, I really need some forks off an '01-'03 GSX-R 600 too. Why couldn't they hit him from the side or the rear.

Atleast the rider is ok, I'll settle for that.

Glad he is okay. Looks like the spokes on the front rim just all snapped off. Ouch. That was one hell of a hit.

Do you think you could ask that guy if I could bag that front tire?
I could totally use a new front tire.

Just kidding though, glad he was ok. I drive in DC everyday on my bike and I've learned that you just have to drive faster than the cab-sassins. They are the biggest a holes that I've ever seen behind a wheel and have no problem moving in your lane even if they know that you're there. I've ridden beside them in my lane as they've come into mine and I have not where to go but to speed up or slow down. I just give the finger and let them decide.

Don't stop when you see the lights coming for you.

May or may not have been the cabs fault, but still.
Unless the motorcyclist was running a light it was the cabs fault. When turning left accross traffic you are at fault.

Sucks all around though. One guy wanted to sell his bike cant, one guy wanted to buy a bike cant and now has to deal with any injuries, one cab driver is gonna get in trouble and traffic got held up.

Sadly thats about the best result you can hope for in an accident.
