Damage to Gixxer - Post TWS - June 30, 2011, 06:09 PM

I'm amazed at how little damage there is to the bike considering it was doing summersaults down at TWS and jump off a 8 foot cliff at high rates of speed.

I haven't started up the bike yet but so far it looks like the front is a bit tweaked. Its having a hard time going from lock to lock. I'm going to relax the bolts to all the front suspension components along with the triple nut to see if it alleviates it. I think they are under tension. Keeping fingers crossed. There is a small dent on the front wheel but the rotor is clearly bent and is binding with the brake. So need new front rotor. The right Vortex clip on bar is bent. Cheap. Clutch works fine but the lever is bent. Probably can be reused but I'm just going to change it. Rear CF fender is cracked. No biggie. Rear subframe is amazingly ok but the cage part of it is sheared off. Rear tire/swingarm/chain/suspension all look good. The upper fairing stay is sheared off but the harness and the tach assembly is untouched so they are good to go. Gas tank has a small dent on it. Hard to see. Right rearset is bent and broken. The most amazing thing was the race rail on the right side. It is literally pushed back about 2 inches without damaging the bolts to the engine mounts. Its really hard to tell from the picture but that whole steal piece is bent!! It saved the frame and the motor. Motor/Tranny/Radiator are untouched. Have no idea how...

UPDATE: It's alive! The motor and tranny are in tip top shape. Just replaced the complete rear subframe thanks to Carnage sending it out fast. Took off the front wheel and got it checked out. Its bent Ordered some rotor bolts while I was at the dealership.

The one issue I'm having is with the front fork assembly. I loosened everything but the bottom triple bolt but the steering is still a little hard to push from lock to lock. So next step is to loosen that. HOWEVER, I need the special tool to adjust the steering stem head nut.

Spanner wrench.

You can use a brass punch and light taps in a jam.

If you haven't already gone there, I'm sure Gixxer.com would be an excellent resource in helping you bring the bike back to its pre-accident condition.

Best of luck to you.
Yeah Steve me too. Especially after the corner worker told me it was doing summersaults in the air. I'm on gixxer.com constantly reading but don't post up much. Thanks bud.

Good man. Off the pain meds for a full week now so I'm back from major constipation. I can actually sleep on my right side this week which means my ribs are healing. Having to sleep on your back for nearly a month sucks balls. Having to sneeze sucks even bigger balls. All on all I'm feeling lucky and playin the lottery.

You need to take the forks out and check them for straightness!!!!!!!! I am gonna bet they bent. But it might not be too bad were they can be straightened. Looks like those crash rails have paid for themselves many times over! Oh and you should check the tripples to see if they are bent.

Good point. I mean we inspected the forks by laying a straight metal ruler on them and visually but it's entirely possible we are missing something. While I have the front end apart I might as well pull the forks off. However would rolling them on the ground to test for straightness would suffice?
