Damnit! Went down yesterday - October 1, 2007, 08:03 AM

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later...
I should have taken BamBam's advice and not done a track day at Pocono. I was up there for a Nesba day yesterday and the temps were a little cooler in the morning and by the third session were up to the lower 60's.

The incident: I had been taking 2-3 laps to make sure my tires were warmed up before pushing it at all. On the session right before lunch, we got about 3 laps in when the red flag came out so we all pulled into hot pit to wait for the cleanup. It didn't seem like it took a long time to clean up but it was obviously enough time for the tires to cool down a bit... you see where I'm going with this... So they green flagged us back out and I got about 1/3 around the course and pulled a bonehead noob move, grabbing some front brake while leaned over on tires that weren't up to temp. Next thing I knew the bike was sliding away from me and I was tumbling. Got up to give the corner station workers the thumbs up and realized "ouch, My shoulder kinda hurts".

The ambulance folks checked me out and asked me to raise my hands straight out in front. Sure enough, felt some pain in my left shoulder but it wasn't too bad. They dropped me back off at my pit and as I was inspecting the damage on my bike the adrenaline started to wear off and I realized my collar bone was sticking up higher than it should. Shit. Long story short, my Dad, Uncle and Cousin that were there with me loaded all our stuff up and drove me to the nearby emergency room where I got some x-rays taken, etc. Yep, broken collar bone, so I gotta walk around in a sling for the next 4-6 weeks. I want to send a special thank you to Percocet for making the 6 hour drive home bearable

The bike's not too bad actually... I think it made out better than I did. Frame slider took most of the abuse, bent shifter, bent clutch control and some rash on the fairings. Definitely could have been much worse. I'll post some pics up later.

What I learned: too much front brakes while leaned over + cold tires = ouch.

That sucks. I remember when i broke my collar bone as a kid, whenever i moved i could feel the bone "click/grind". Pretty awful.

Hope you heal up quick.
