Didn't think I'd ever be posting in here - September 22, 2006, 07:47 AM

Most motorcycles happen within 5 minutes or something like that right? Well, it's true and I'm glad to be here typing right now, literally. Hop'd on at around 7:30am after taking a week of riding off, pulled out of the lot, turned left onto Rt. 7 and all I remember was the bike starting to skid right as I was going left then viloently throwing me to the curb like a piece of crap. It was defenitely cold tires and something that caught me off guard as I wasn't asshole riding at all, just taking a normal left and hitting the pavement. I can recall slightly hearing the bike slam on it's side and me skidding on my shoulders desperately trying to roll towards the median because as I was sliding I rememeber seeing cars coming straight at me and one swerving away. The bike kept going and I was safely on the median trying to analyze if I was dreaming or if this really happened. One look at my bike told me I high sided and went down. Had all my gear for my standards (jeans, boots, leather jacket, gloves, helmet) and by looking at my shoulders on the jacket tells me why I walked away without any injury to my skin.

I didn't know who to tell really, not telling my pops or mom cuz they'll freak out so I'm posting here and want to ask what I need to do next? I'm still a little shook up. The bike (06 600RR) has a $250 deductable insurance and right now I know I need a new front right fearing, rear cowel piece, & side blinker. Walking the bike back I noticed it didn't start or didn't want to start and the brakes still worked but the brake handles were bent up. I'm not sure what to do, if I should call the insurance company and just have a shop fix it up for me the way it was before... or just buy the parts for it and fix over the winter.

Same shit just happened to me. Frame sliders saved me though. I think that going thru your insurance company would be the cheapest way to go but it will take the longest. I say just buy a 2007 Jixxer and get it over with.

Wow, I can't help with the repair questions, but I sure am sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you're OK and you're certainly in the right place to get some great advice.

Glad you are ok!!!

If you have Progressive Insurance, they are pretty quick to help. I had to make a claim, and had no problems.

Good luck!!!

I must ride like a granny, because I've never had something like that happen. Have you checked your tire pressure lately? Glad you didn't get hurt.

And I agree with Boom. Use your insurance.

DEf use insurance. Tell them to total out the bike and get a new one.

Highsides tend to fuck the bike up more than you or the repairing shop thinks

Wow. I didn't think cold tires could put you on your ass if you weren't pushing it. It makes me feel better for pussying through all those corners in the cold mornings! Glad you had your gear and walked away with no major injuries!

I don't know what you do in a case like that. I hope I never have to find out. My bike is cheap enough to buy twice if I had to, but I still keep full coverage on it because I don't want to have to be bikeless while I save up the $$$. I don't ever want to be bikeless. For that you completely have my sympathy!
