Motorcycle driver dies in Waldorf crash

A motorcycle driver died Saturday after his bike collided with a van and went airborne, striking an oncoming car on the opposite side of U.S. 301 in Waldorf, according to Maryland State Police.

The speed of the white 2009 Ducati motorcycle, driven by Deven Rachar Blackshear, was a factor that led to the accident, police reported.

Blackshear, 31, was traveling north on U.S. 301 near Route 5 at about 5:44 p.m. when his motorcycle hit the side of a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country that was pulling out of a parking lot onto the highway, according to Maryland State Police Sgt. Eric Diggs. The Ducati then flew into a silver Chevrolet HHR that was heading south on U.S. 301, according to a press release.

A state police helicopter flew Blackshear, who was suffering from serious head trauma and a broken neck, from the scene to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he died, police reported.

Abigail Jaye Nabors, 33, of Waldorf, who was driving the Town & Country and had facial injuries, and a toddler, who was riding in a rear seat of the van and whose injuries were unknown, were both flown to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., according to the report.

The 16-year-old Chevrolet driver, Shaquoy Yvette Morris, and a 46-year-old passenger, Yvette Linda Morris, both of King George, Va., reportedly didn't suffer any injuries and weren't transported to a hospital after the accident.

+1

That was my first thought.

Although, if he was speeding, the driver pulling out of the parking lot may not have been able to properly judge distance and oncoming speed of the bike.

If you're going over the speed limit, you're at fault. You can't do 100 in town and expect people to not pull out in front of you or not give you enough time to bring it back down to within the speed limit.

Sorry to hear this sad news.

Lexington Park Couple Dies in Maryland Motorcycle Accident

Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly motor vehicle crash in St. Mary’s County that left a newlywed couple dead. Phillip Brian Natalie died at the crash scene, while his wife, Jessica Laurel Natalie, was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s hospital following the crash. Jessica and Laurel, who were both 26, were married this summer.
The collision took place at the intersections of Crimson Drive and Willows Road. Police reports indicate that the Maryland motor vehicle collision happened after a Toyota Camry, driven by 25-year-old Lateesha Shonte Cooper, made a left turn and drove into the path of the motorcycle that the couple was riding. Cooper, who is also a Lexington Park resident, was treated at a hospital for her injuries and later released.
According to Lt. Michael Thompson, preliminary findings made it appear to him as if the motorcycle was trying to avoid Cooper's car. He noted the possibility that Cooper might have failed to yield the right of way.
Maryland State Police records show that there were 96 motorcycle deaths in Maryland in 2007. Police say that although only 2% of all registered motor vehicles in Maryland are motorcycles, these vehicles were involved in 16% of the state’s deadly traffic collisions. While Maryland motorcyclists are responsible for 50% of these auto accidents, the other 50% of traffic crashes are caused by other motorists.

I don't like reading these either but it serves as a good reminder of the dangers on the streets and to keep yourself in check. If you want to blaze do it on a secluded road or at the track, otherwise you have to be aware of the potential hazards.

That being said RIP to the rider, a lot of these tragedies could be avoided if people slowed down or rode within their limits.
