Fatal Wreck in Chantilly - October 2, 2007, 08:26 PM

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Tuesday, October 2 at Centreville Road and Lees Corner Road. The crash occurred around 5:21 a.m. as a 52-year-old man operating a 2003 Dodge Dakota turned into the path of a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The driver of the Dodge was traveling south on Centreville Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Lees Corner Road under a green light without yielding. The 54-year-old driver of the Harley was driving north on Centreville Road and also had a green light. The motorcyclist was medevaced to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead just after noon. The driver of the Dodge was not injured.

Alan Hensberger, of 20399 Tholen Street in Ashburn, was cited for failure to yield on a left turn and released on a summons. The deceased has been identified as Robert Knight, Jr., of 6407 Beales Court in Bealton. Speed and alcohol were not factors.

Amazing.....kill a person and you get a summons.I automatically assume every person making a turn is gonna turn into my path.

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

Damn cagers. I had to avoid a car myself today turning left in to me. Problem is when your not paying attention is when this crap happens.

Sorry to here about this, the family will be dealing with this all too long.

I constantly wonder if I'm insane to brave the streets on two wheels with all these suicidal commuters on the roads. People pilot vehicles doing everything else except actually DRIVING. They talk on cell phones, text, eat, put on make-up, etc. No one seems to take driving seriously even though for the vast majority of us it's the most dangerous thing we each day and the one thing most likely to kill us until we get older.
RIP rider.

So you only allow intelligent-looking young men to drive near you?

Very sad news, and I'm sorry for the rider's family and friends. I know this won't be popular, but I do feel sorry for the cager in this as well. His life is ruined, if he has a conscience, and I assume he does. He may also get hit with involuntary manslaughter or something like that and nailed in civil court. All these things he should and will reckon with. Everyone loses.
