Unhappy first time down - April 30, 2006, 04:50 PM

so iv been riding for a little over a year now, and everyone i know that rides says 'you ride em, you wreck em'. today apparently was the day to lose my cherry. i was on I81, and ran into a group of about 8 guys, so i really didnt have anything to do so i followed them for a little bit. turns out 2 of them were good freinds of a good friend. they decide to head out to harpers ferry, so i lead since im from that area. cruising on these back roads about 75mph, totally in control, know the roads....... taking a downhill turn to the left at about 50. i feel my front tires start to slide and i came up from my lean. i regained control but ran outta pavement and slid it out into a grassy knoll at about 40. only thing it did was collapse my mirror and a little bit of grass stain on the pants. scary? i dont know. happened too quick. emabarassing. hell yes. meet some new guys to ride with and 5 mins later im in the ditch. feel like i was out on a date w/ an amazingly hot girl and busted ass. you know, just kinda hurt the pride alot. now im off to bartend for the next 6 hours. plenty of time to think about it.

Why did the front wheels slide out? Are your tires worn out?
I'm holding to my 25% theory.

Glad your ok - April 30, 2006, 08:01 PM

Don't sweat it, there are only two types of riders. The ones that have gone down and the ones that are going to go down.
Chalk it up as a learning experience.

not sure why the tire slid out. cold rubber/cold pavement, too fast. yes, too fast was def. a factor, scared? maybe? i know 'when in doubt, lean it out' and i thought i was doing fine but i felt the front tire slide (the bike is lowered, alot, maybe i ran outta tire?) either way, the grass was easy on the bike and mr. joe rocket kept my skin together. ...maybe i just cant ride. anyone want to buy a zx6r?? only kidding.

Glad you made it out okay. 40mph sounds awfully fast to me! Sheesh, I almost tipped my bike over doing a 0mph U-turn and felt all shaky (revved the engine hard trying to right the bike). I can't imagine a full slide-out!
