Nicole's dad came down from NJ to ride with me this past weekend and I took him over 33 east and down rt 810 to Crozet. For my birthday, he bought me some frame sliders and I immediately put them on the next morning.

So we ride out to get gas and head over the mountain and we stop just on the other side down 810 by this little white church. Take some pictures and head out.

The road isn't a fast road, but it has it's nice spots and straights. One quirky thing about it is that it has dead stop 90 degree turns, usually over, for instance, a bridge.

I slowed down to about 20, a car in front of us and I was leading. I swung wide just to stay in my imaginary lane even though no traffic was coming. I was going just above a comfortable speed for crossing a bridge at an angle but I was fine. So I started paying attention to the car again and didn't notice the fine gravel that curved into the bridge.

All of the sudden I'm sitting on my ass looking back towards the way we came. I immediately stood up and picked up the bike to check it out.

This 3 hour old frameslider saved me hundreds of dollars. The most expensive thing I'll have to replace is the stator cover.

I got my revenge though. My stand spool took made I nice tattoo in the road.

Other than very minor scrapes on the rear grab handle and the lip around the left mirror, this was the other noticable damage. Busted the lens and tore the gasket.

I have a nice bruise on the inside of my right thigh from the handle bar and one on the inside of my right elbow. I have no idea why i'm not hurt at all on my left side. My back was pretty sore about 8 hours later, but a heating pad and Bayer solved that. I have a small patchable hole on the shell of the joe rocket pants and that's it. It didn't even go all the way through.

In the end, it felt really stupid. Nothing like dropping your bike going 15 mph because of gravel.

Later we had to go back home because somewhere along our way to Crozet, I realized I lost my wallet. So we had to back track to the accident site, the church and then Harrisonburg where I got gas. No wallet. I was more bummed about that than the accident.

So we hit 33 west to WVA to tame the beast. Oddly enough, I rode the best I have on that road and even pulled away from Nicole's dad, an ex-motocross racer who more than kept up with me the rest of the day. A good feeling to end a poop day.

Bummer about the dump and your wallet...but 810 through Crozet is a banging road. For about a year, the only way I could remember to turn onto 810 was by passing it, and doubling back on 33. Everytime I'd miss it. Part of me thinks that I have to pass it to get to it

Glad you posted up what happened as opposed to trying to keep it super secret so that no one would ever find out about it. This gives people to opportunity to realize they might be doing the same thing sometimes. I know I am guilty of it.

I forgot to mention that I've been riding for 3 years and this is my first.

I'm no longer a low side virgin

Just remembered this (months later).

I found my wallet. It was inbetween the layers of my riding pants. Fell through the stitching. Too bad I replaced all my stuff first.
