Hokie Crashes Short Version - July 4, 2008, 08:00 PM

Short Version

I crashed today on 66 east bound near 123, a minivan came over into our lane with no signal. The bike in front of me merged away but I could not. I braked as hard as I could and moved as far over in my lane as I could because there was a car on my left but I could not stop, I had about 3 seconds, I was actually doing a rolling endo I am told. With the back end off the ground, my right hip hit the left rear off the van and my front end got squirelly and I imagined it tucked and threw me over and the next thing I knew I was rolling and sliding then came to rest on the left shoulder off 66. I looked up to see my 04 r6 laying on the shoulder, my baby, the bike I did my first track day with, the bike I took cornerspeed with, the bike I got bumped to I with, with 34,000 miles on her side, looking right back at me, it broke my heart

I was taken to Fairfax Hospital, discharged after an hour and a half or so, I have road rash on my right knee and lower back and right elbow and my right hip is starting to swell and bruise, I am home now the bike is in a friend's garage

I should be dead I dont know how I was not run over, if I was wearing full leathers I would have walked away from the accident which blows my mind

Thank you for everyone that came to the hospital, Fidel thank you for handling the bike so it is safe and sound

I have the info of the driver of the minivan and I am talking to my insurance company, I feel like it was his fault as well as the other rider that was with me but the cop came to the hospital and was very nice listened to me and gave me a ticket for unsafe lane change which I of course will fight

Speed was not an issue, all the paperwork I have says I was doing 55

All in all I don't know how the hell I was not seriously hurt, I can't believe it, I am very thankful

Full report with pics of bike and gear later I am sore so gonna lay down a bit

Thank you all for the texts and calls

damn! my personal nightmare. Nice job on the save.

I seriously think sometimes while I'm commuting that it's only a matter of time before somebody comes in my lane, and I don't have time/space to do anything about it.

Ack. Glad you ok, Hokie.

That sounds a lot like my HOV spill in 2006.
