i crashed - March 15, 2017, 01:14 PM

the last time i crashed on the street was when i first started riding back in 1999. after ~100k miles, i finally picked up crash number two. it was on VA-615 northbound last thursday. it was a new road to me, and what i didn't know was that it had a nice layer of gravel on it and there are absolutely no road signs leading up to the turn (which i would estimate to be a 20-25 max safe speed type turn). i tried to brake and turn, but i was going too fast and ended up hitting the dirt wall on the other side of the road and went down. i landed on the right side of my body, i'm mostly fine except my chest landed on my arm and now my entire right side of chest (from back to front) hurts. my bike landed on my knee, so now the right knee is black and blue and filled with some fluid although i have no trouble flexing it or putting weight on it. just need to RICE it.

lessons learned:
1. always pay attention, especially on unknown roads (duh)
2. wear a chest protector because that shit hurts

bike came out mostly ok. i have a spare front fairing, but adding up the cost of all the little bits will be around $500 for brand new parts.

va-615 northbound. "surprise m0therfcker, there's a 20mph turn at the end of this straightaway waiting for you!"

my poor bike:

That sucks to hear, glad you're in one piece though. Take it easy over the next few days.

Bike doesn't seem too damaged. Anything bent?

You shouldn't have crashed then

You get checked by a doctor? Sounds like you've got serious bruises. Better safe than sorry

Go get checked up just for safety. Sorry to hear this. Where you distracted or just going to fast to see/do something about the turn?

Sorry it happened to you. Heal up soon. You might have some cracked or bruised ribs. You can go to the doctor for those, but there isn't anything they can really do to make them better. I know it is a cliche, but the rule on cracked / broken / bruised ribs is if it hurts to do X, then stop doing X so your ribs can heal.

Note: I am not a doctor, but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn a few times. Oh, and I have had broken ribs. They suck. Particularly when you laugh at someone's bad jokes.

And if you have to sneeze, don't! Expel air out of your nose until the urge to sneeze subsides.

yeah that was my lesson learned #1. i was out for a casual ride so was just cruising along and not paying attention (thinking about dinner, work, home improvement shit, i can't remember), by the time i realized how tight the turn was, i was already halfway through and lost any chance for recovery. that's my excuse.

omg, i sneezed a couple days ago and it felt like i crashed again. wow that was painful. every day i feel a little bit better. my plan was to see a doc if i didn't see noticeable improvement in 2 weeks.

Definitely happy to hear of no broken bones or a destroyed bike.

If you need help with anything give me a shout.

The upside is, the fatter I get, the bigger the scar grows.
