Nice to know my sh^tty azz apartment complex never salts their roads.

This morning I dropped my bike coming out of my apartment complex right by the gate.

Was getting ready to make a left coming out of the gate - road wasn't salted and normally I ride with both feet down, but this morning was going over everything in my mind for work. Tapped the front brake, bike went down and I slid for about 12 feet. Left leg took most of the punishment, bike is scratched but not too badly - she started right up when I picked her up and my pride was hurt more then anything.

I hate winter and I hate apartment complexes.

Thanks for reading my b^tch session. Lady at the complex was like, "oh, ok, yeah I guess we could salt that. I'll look into it."

Maybe I should sue???

Either way - if you're a newb like me and reading this, just be careful out there. Road's are still cold, and water is obviously still frozen. On the bright side, I lowsided in a complex, not out on the highway. So watch yourselves out there.

Good call P- damage is minimal. My ankle's swollen, elbow's a bit bruised (along with the ego). Think I broke one of my toes too, but we'll find out tomorrow.

As for you Jon... My friendship bracelet passed the test...

DT if someone saw that and it was on their property I would have them pay for the repairs. Part of your rent money is for them maintaining their property.

Don't trust the ground out when it is cold...sorry to hear you dumped your bike and I'm glad you're ok...better that kind of wreck than something worse right? Hell, that really wasn't your fault anyhow so don't beat yourself up.

Ok as the token Jew here. In Virginia your required by law to clean the ice/snow off the sidewalk in front of your house or you are liable for slips and falls by pedestrians.
Virginia code says the following about it. But what this means is the local gov. has a sperate code that defines what you need to do. I would take this and go into the office, demand to see the manager and politly suggest that he should work something out with you. Be careful how you phrase it though as you don't want to come across as trying to blackmale them.

I found this at http://leg1.state.va.us/000/src.htm

§ 15.2-2025. Removal of snow and ice.

Notwithstanding the provisions of § 15.2-2000 A, any county in Northern Virginia Planning District 8 may provide by ordinance reasonable criteria and requirements for the removal of accumulations of snow and ice from public sidewalks, by the owner or other person in charge of any occupied property.

Such ordinance shall include reasonable time frames for compliance and reasonable exceptions for handicapped and elderly persons, and those otherwise physically incapable of meeting the criteria and requirements for such removal.

Civil penalties not to exceed $100 may be imposed for violation of such ordinance.

(1988, c. 356, § 15.1-29.16; 1997, c. 587.)

Hope this helps.
