Last week's fatal ATV wreck - June 7, 2006, 02:45 PM

This is the outcome of the wreck I was posting about in the shoutbox last week.

Loudoun County, Virginia- The investigation of a fatal crash last week near Dulles International Airport has been handed over to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigations Unit.

Shay Morgan Allen, 19, of Reston was riding his all-terrain-vehicle on May 30th around 8:20 PM in the area of Lockridge Road near Prentice Drive when he struck a braided cable running across private property. Allen was struck across his body and was thrown from the 2006 Honda TRX 300 EX he was riding.

Allen was initially taken to INOVA Loudoun Hospital but was later airlifted to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation was initially handled by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority as it was believed the crash took place on airport property. It was later learned the crash occurred under the county’s jurisdiction.

Poor kid. Better an accident doing something he enjoyed than being shot walking down the street.

I know where this was. The sad thing is there are heavy cables crossing most of the roads/trails into the woods there. They are pretty much everywhere. One day, they will be there, the next day some one has cut it down. And then someone puts it back up. If your not used to the area and are not really thinking about it....it will catch you by suprise.

RIP Shay Morgan Allen
