^This!

During my cycling days, I never saw a cycling shoe wear down like that from road rash!

Off topic - I need motivation to get back on the bike

Only when I started riding motorcycles did I realize how incredibly stupid I was as a kid. When I could fit onto my dad's old Thomasini road bike, I would take that up to the top of a large hill in the neighborhood, which had a long, almost straight shot road down from the top. I'd hit about 40 mph on the speedo racing down that hill in nothing but a jersey and some bike shorts. This bike was about 20 years old and had seen better days. Sometimes the front wheel would have a little wobble (probably a loose bearing).

I still quiver thinking about what could have gone wrong. I'd be one ugly mo f'er if I crashed and managed to live.
