Rider Down - People In A Hurry - May 18, 2011, 06:18 PM

So I'm on my way around the Beltway near the exit for the BW parkway and notice a Honda and Kaw streaking up the far left lane. The Honda pops a wheelie as they go by. I got in behind them and they switched to left-center just as traffic started to slow near Rt1/College Park. The Honda rider pops a wheelie. Then a longer wheelie. Then an even longer wheelie. I could see exactly where this was headed. He pops another wheelie and attempts to keep ride it out but gives it a little too much throttle. He panics and tries to put his feet down and upsets the bike's balance in the process. The pissed off bike gets out and continues down the road without him, leaving him tumbling behind. I nearly sh*t myself at that point because I was SURE he was gonna get run over but he didn't. Traffic stopped...just long enough for people to swerve around him and KEEP ON DRIVING!

I pulled into the shoulder and another motorist stopped his vehicle in traffic. By now the rider was on his feet, so a couple more people drove around him and the bike and continued down the road. The motorist managed to get traffic to stop long enough for the fallen rider to get out of the road and his buddy to pick his bike up and get it out of the road. The rider turned out to have a cut on his leg and some shoulder road rash but paramedics were called anyway. His gear probably kept him from serious injury. His helmet was roughed up and his jacket looked like angry chinchillas had gotten to it.

Aside from me and the guy who stopped traffic, no one else near the scene stopped. Two other motorists who had been further back stopped. How the hell do you drive around someone who has just fallen off a motorcycle!? Are people around here in that much of a hurry? Or is it an attitude of "that guy was popping wheelies so f*ck him"?

Dear God: grant that my hands be steady, my path be true, and my bike swift. And should the worst come to pass...grant me forgiveness.

I would have stopped. But the other drivers probably though he got what he deserved. But then you know DC, if it doesn't affect them, then who cares.

Of course, no sympathy. That's what gives all bad names.

Dumbass. Why are you going to go out and wheelie? The street is NOT the place for that! Oh.... uh...... nevermind. At least I did it where there was noone around to witness my dumbass!

Cagers didnt stop because you were on the beltway! Dude was riding out of line on the beltway! Sooooo cagers could give a rats ass about beltway wheelie popping knuckleheads when peoples lives are hella busy trying to work & take care of families...let the cops sort out that mess.

Would you have also asked him why he was doing wheelies in the kitchen?
