Rider Down yesterday on miniville - May 3, 2007, 11:07 AM

http://www.potomacnews.com/servlet/S...51051299&path=

Prince William County police have been unable to identify a man who died instantly when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a county school bus Wednesday morning on Minnieville Road in Dale City.

According to Officer Erika Hernandez, the motorcycle was traveling west when it hit the side of the bus that was turning left from eastbound Minnieville Road on to Savannah Drive.

The motorcycle caught fire, burning the victim's body beyond recognition.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident and no one else was injured, according to police.

Officers at the scene were unable to find the victim's ID.

Witnesses reported that the victim was traveling at a high-rate of speed in the 45 mph speed zone, Hernandez said.

Although there's a slight grade in that area of the road, Hernandez said it would not have severely affected the motorcyclist's ability to see the bus.

Crash scene investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident, how fast the victim was driving and whether he braked before colliding with the bus, Richardson said.

The identity of the victim is pending analysis by the Medical Examiner's office.

RIP...sad to hear, and for the record I was in my FJ on my way to work and had a bus pull out right in front of me I had to all but lock up the brakes and I was actually doing at or below the speed limit. A lot of the bus drivers don't pay attention so watch yourself.

Very sad to hear and that's a road I ride on quite a bit

Don't mess around in busy areas...remember to always give yourself that safety margin for the unexpected.

Sort of. It says:

"Crash scene investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident, how fast the victim was driving and whether he braked before colliding with the bus, Richardson said."
