Rider killed in Boonsboro - July 25, 2011, 06:05 PM

HAGERSTOWN, MD - A Boonsboro man is dead after a pickup truck hit his motorcycle Monday morning.

State police say the accident happened on Route 66 in Hagerstown as the pick-up truck driver was trying to merge onto I-70.

The 33-year-old motorcyclist, Rodger Singleton was taken to Meritus Medical Center where he died.

Police say the pick-up truck driver, 23-year-old Michael Warner from Monrovia, MD has been charged with negligent driving and failing to yield, but police say he will not face any more charges because he wasn't driving recklessly.

I Believe he was driving a Motard

What a bad situation... RIP

A little more details in this story:

A 33-year-old Boonsboro motorcyclist died of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident this morning on Route 66 at the Interstate 70 intersection, according to Maryland State Police.

Rodger Dwayne Singleton was northbound on Route 66 on a 1991 Honda motorcycle at 5:29 a.m. when a southbound 2007 Ford pickup truck driven by Michael Ryan Warner, 23, of Monrovia, Md., turned left to enter the interstate.

Warner did not yield and collided with the motorcycle, police said.

Singleton was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, where he was pronounced dead. Warner was not injured in the crash.

Warner was charged with negligent driving and failure to yield the right of way.

Route 66 north was closed for about two hours during the investigation.

A lot of that going on. Had an old couple try to pull out in front of me at a U turn spot on route 40. Was coming up to the intersection with my signal on. to cut across and he waited til I was up on him to start pulling out. Then shook his head at me like I was some idiot even though he was on the wrong side of the Turnabout.

Best wishes to his family and Everyone be careful out there.

I was @ arundel mills heading out on the loop waited my turn @ the stop sign and a guy tried to double up with another vehicle and almost hit me...i slowed to an almost halt shook my head and gave him the finger...his wife then started yelling at him..so i guess that was punishment enough

Yeah you gotta be careful at their I've known 3 people on bikes to be hit at the mall because people don't pay attention.

Rip indeed sad and I wish they would get harder charges. Hit a person on a bike and you get deadly weapon charge

If you can engage the in-car governor then you've dealt sufficient punishment.
