Yesterday afternoon I learned my co-worker and friend was involved in an accident on his motorcycle. I immediately drove to UMD Medical Center to find out his condition. He is currently in critical condition in the Shock Trauma Unit. I don't know the details yet of how he crashed. Earlier there was talk of amputation of both legs. When I arrived to his room the doctors were able to save his legs. He is currently in critical but stable condition. Everyone say a prayer for Marcelo! He is a family man and rides a cruiser.

Seeing someone close in that kind of condition after a motorcycle accident really shook me up mentally yesterday. But I know I must get back on my motorcycle and conquer my fear. I recently got back on my bike after a motorcycle accident of my own five years ago.

Everyone be safe and look out for the idiots driving around on the roads with cell phones up to the ears, reading while driving or putting makeup on while driving!

Godspeed in your Recovery Marcelo!!!. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Solo. Thanks for posting this. This is why I am so proud to have been a member of .NET so long. Although we are harsh and bash the crap out of each other, we are still one giant family. We all really do care about each other and our fellow riders.

Please keep us informed of his progress and anything we can do to help him or his family out.

Thanks for all of the well wishes. I just returned from the hospital today. I sat with his wife and mother who traveled here from Brazil. Marcelo endured 7 1/2 hours of surgery today to repair his right leg from the femur down to his ankles, repaired his elbow, did some work on his lung and liver. Marcelo has broken his pelvis in two places which should heal on it's own and spine which should heal on it's own. The major task is another surgery on Wednesday to attempt to repair his left leg. The family has not received the police report or a call from the officer (Howard County). They have seen the motorcycle and aside from some scratches on the left side the bike is completely in tact. The assumption is Marcelo may have dropped the bike since it was raining that day an in efforts to get up was struck by a vehicle. They just don't know at this point.

Again, thanks for all of the well wishes and keep praying. Everyone be safe and ride you ride and be vigilant of the cagers!
