Not really a crash but I need to vent anyway. I rode my 6 to work yesterday and parked it in its usual spot on a sidewalk perpendicular to our parking lot and nearly against the building (probably only 12" away).

X--X

I'm sitting in my office when I hear this big CRASH!!!! A co-worker looks out the wind and screams "Oh S@#!, you gotta see this!" I go and see my bike laying on the ground. I run outside where another co-worker is writing down the license plate of the car that hit it. He was trying to run!!!!! Well traffic didn't allow him to get out of the parking lot so he backed up and parked. He had backed into the bike when backing out of the parking space he was in. He came out to see me and immediately started to apologize. I just said "whatever" and asked for his insurance information. He said he wanted to leave the insurance out of this and pay for it himself. Part of the damaged pieces was my front rim and my newly bought and installed Devil Shotgun exhaust. When I told him how much it would cost just for those 2 things he decided to call Daddy to help him. So his dad shows up and tells him to give me his insurance card, we exchange info and they left. I spent the next few minutes taking pictures with my phone of all the damaged parts until the county police show up to document the incident. Since it is on private property they cannot file a report but could give me a case number for my insurance claim. Called both insurance companies and his is supposed to call me today to send out an adjuster. This whole thing pissed me off.

Here is the damage:
Right Mirror scratched
Right Brake Lever scratched
Right Handlebar End scratched
Front Rim scratched
Fork scratched
Right Fairing Insert scratched
Right Frame Slider scratched
Right Lower Fairing scratched
Right Swingarm Spool scratched
Tail Fairing scratched
Passenger Seat Cowl scratched
Swingarm scratched
Exhaust System dented, scratched, and bent mounting bracket
License Plate bent

Damn man, that really, really sucks. Will insurance cover parts like the aftermarket exhaust, or will they only pay for a new OEM (well, OEM parts can cost a crapload when you pay dealer prices anyway - so you could get a fat check in any event)?

Sorry to hear, bud

They have to restore the bike to the condition it was in before the accident. That exhaust was only put on 2 weeks ago.

That's called "indemnify". You are right. They probably won't reimburse you for the devil exhaust but would reimburse you for the cost of a new stock pipe. Luckily, it's probably as much as the devil.

Hey man, EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME LAST YEAR!!! My neighbor was drunk one night and tried to park in my spot thinking it was empty. He tried to run too but I saw him and called dispatch.

In the end, the cop couldn't do much but to make sure he gave me his info....about a month later I got a nice fat check from his insurance.

You should be fine...but when the adjuster comes out, make sure you do it at a local bike dealer or something. It helps to have someone who knows all about bike repair at hand. When my adjuster came out, I took him straight to FFX Cycles and he was getting lectured on how much "small plastic" pieces cost. They guy they sent out had this crazy idea that plastics & a yoshi pipe didn't cost much.
