Well, here is my contribution to the crash pages....
Just finished diassembling my 99' F4 & getting all the wetter water out of the system after leaving it in the garage so several months. Ripped out my clutch to take measurements on the metal plates for signs of wear etc... A few were out of spec, so its cool I will leave it stripped down until I get the parts. My cell rings & my mom says she is in town and wants me to visit her on 28 at a sattle shop. So I clean up, slap some things in a backpack & get on my Gixer for a short venture up the road. After my mother & her husband finished up, I said my goodbyes and roll out in front of them. I turn out & start moving along... Next thing I feel my rear tire feels like its sliding while going in a straight line... The next few seconds seem like a vague dream. I remember the feeling of the rear zig zagging, the handle bars slapping violently left to right, and then.... waking up on the ground. It happened so fast that I don't remember even reacting at all.

My best guess at the speed was beween 30-40 mph. We push the bike off the road and sure enough a cop shows up to make sure things are cool & that license checks out. I tried to lift my right arm & I hear pop, pop, pop.... Holy shit that hurts!!! I was wearing my jacket, boots, and sure enough jeans. After a ride in the meat wagon I get to PWC hospital to embark on a drug induced adventure. Several shots of some derivatives of the morphine family & they got to work on my posterior dislocation of my right shoulder. Upon examination of my pants, there were two holes shredded that revealed some road rash on both knees. I don't remember anything after that, just waking up at home in bed. They thought I fractured a wrist & a rib, but thankfully that turned out to be false.

The dealerships in Manassas won't even take the bike in to do an estimate because almost all the plastic has at least one scratch on it. So far totalled is the only answer everyone is saying. The front end of the bike fell apart because there is nothing but a thin piece of alluminum holding the console & head light assembly in. The gas tank is almost perfect with two light scratches. Left fairing is split in half, right side is crushed, the rear & drivers seat has foam ripped out, the rear housing tail has somehow merged with the drivers seat & torn thru it partially. My frame sliders on both sides have been ground in, but the right side almost got torn off. The wheels, engine, frame are all good to go by appearances. I can't imagine its totaled, but I guess thats the way it goes if my insurance man says so ( still waiting for them to look at it).

Got a wreckless from the city cop, which will hopefully be reduced or dropped. Not sure what evidence suggested I was wreckless, but they got to issue a ticket I guess. Word of advise to all to check your insurance coverage for your bike to cover medical expenses, cause my guy tried to talk me out of it at first a long time ago. Secondly, road rash is a bitch! So now I am officially a member of the club no one wants to be a part of. Thank goodness for GF's or wifes or anyone brave enough to take care of you because once your injuried its all changes for you. So, thanks Aviva for keeping me up when i reached new lows. They say 6 monthes of therapy, so I will see what happens. Good luck to all & keep your shiny side up Damn, its time to pop another Vicodin. Peace.

Any ideas on what caused the tire to slide out? Sounds like you had to have been having mechanical issues? Maybe you could get that wreckless ticket down to a improper/faulty equipment one.

Sounds like you just survived a classic tankslapper.

Glad your are here to tell the tale!

Is your bike equipped with a steering damper? If not you should consider getting one.

2005 GSXR1000 y/b - with stock dampener. I really hope its not totaled cause I was hoping to get it out to Summit or VIR in the summer. I believe if 75% costs of the value to repair or more is totaled. Time will tell.

So what's the deal? Glad to hear you are OK but why did it happen in the first place? The rear wheel felt like it was spinning going in a straight line?

You should definitely try to figure out why it happened.

Also, the reckless is BS unless you were doing something reckless. If there wasn't even a cop at the scene to see you doing something reckless then get it tossed.

In many jurisdictions, there is no charge for them to charge other than reckless. Ex: in Herndon there was no "Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention to Driving" charge so officers just charged reckless driving. That has since changed but some jurisdictions don't have that. I'm glad you made it through though. There may have been a leak that got onto the rear tire making it lose traction or a variety of things. Buy the bike back from the insurance company and put it on the track.

Holy Schmack! I haven't been on .net in a long while and I was surprised to see this post.

Glad you're alive 'n breathin Nate. Hope therapy is shorter than expected.

Sorry about the k5 and the ticket, hope you resolve both to your satisfaction.

...But, do you know how a Marine "rates" the countries and cities he's toured?

...By how easy it is to get laid, get drunk, and get in a fight.

...Go figure.

I do believe that the officer didnt even have to charge you at all if no one else was involved. And the fact that no one was around you to say otherwise. Sounds like a BS ticket.

But damn glad you pulled out of all of this with a few bumps and cuts. Heal up fast.
