Thumbs up ***OFFICIAL*** Team Bam Bam - American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure 2011 - October 18, 2010, 08:41 AM

Team Bam Bam rides in 2011!

I know it's early and we just finished the Step Out event, but I've already received a couple requests to get Team Bam Bam created for the 2011 Tour de Cure. Earlier this year on Father's Day we had 16 team members and raised over $8,000. Let's make the 2011 ride even bigger & better!!

Please come out and join "Team Bam Bam" in our efforts to help find a cure and raise awareness for diabetes.

To join Team Bam Bam or sponsor a Team Bam Bam rider, follow the link - http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/DistrictofColumbiaMetroArea/1623771342?pg=team&fr_id=7563&team_id=496106

EDIT - If the above link returns a "Event not published" page, please try copying & pasting the address into an address bar.

To join the team and ride with us, at the bottom left side of the page you will see a Team Bam Bam box with a "Join the team" link. That will then take you thru the registration process. $15 is the current fee for registration. Also, for the first 200 people to register for the event, you'll get a cool, long-sleeve "2011 In Training" t-shirt. The current fund raising goal of $5,000 has been set for the team.

To sponsor a rider and make a donation, follow the link above and click on the rider's name, you'll then be taken to their personal page where you can then sponsor him/her.

For those of you who don't know, Greg "Bam Bam" Walker suffered from diabetes.

I have quite a few Team Bam Bam cycling jerseys, and I think a couple tech t-shirts still for sale. As this event grows closer, if there's enough interest and the jerseys/shirts are selling, I'll place another order.

Sunday June 5, 2011
Reston Town Center
Registration Opens: TBD - but most likely 6:00am - 10:30 (depending on the route you're registering for)
Event Starts: TBD - but most likely 7:30 - 11:30am
Distance: 6 different route lengths, 100, 63, 33, 20, 17, 1-12 miles
Event Details - Tour de Cure:

The National Capital Tour de Cure is an exciting cycling event that allows both the avid and recreational cyclist to raise money for diabetes research, advocacy and educational programs.

All rides will begin at the Reston Town Center Pavilion and venture onto various paved trail systems in the Reston area. Experience a scenic ride through the beautiful Northern Virginia countryside
.

Every ride will have at least one themed rest stop equipped with restrooms, and plenty of food and refreshments to fuel your ride. Bike Marshals, Safety Patrols, Roaming Mechanics and Volunteers will support each route to ensure a safe and fun ride from start to finish! Upon completion, return to the Reston Town Center to enjoy a FREE massage, a FREE nutritious and delicious lunch and a post event party with music and entertainment.

The 2011 National Capital Tour de Cure route has not been released yet.

If you know someone who may be interested in riding next year, or even participating in the event as a volunteer, please don't hesitate to pass this information along to them. The more, the merrier!!

Nice!

Maybe get you a jersey for next year, too? (hint - there may be a winter sale upcoming on the remaining Bam Bam jerseys I have in stock)

Make that 7 confirmed riders for 2011!!

Keep 'em coming folks!

If you know of someone who might be interested in riding with us, or even volunteering or making a small donation to the team, please spread the word about Team Bam Bam.

I'm having thoughts of a nice, 8" x 11" flyer with the team picture from last year to post up.

In the spring, we really need to have some 'official' team training rides on weekends, in addition to all the individual riding during the weekdays. Also, gonna try and get my roommate to sign up as well, not sure if he could do the 100 though.
