1st annual Underwear Ride - November 19, 2007, 12:23 AM

Its time to give back to the community.

As most of you know I am originally from Chicago. In Mid December it is pretty cold in Chicago. Actually it can get real cold. However that never stops many motorcyclists. From getting together and ride a 20 mile route to drop toys of for the US marines “Toys for Tots” Charity. Last year 4,000 bikers rode in 18 degree weather, in 2004 45,500 bikers rode on a 48 degree day to drop off over 70,000 toys.
Now the reason I am telling you this is because I have always wanted to ride in this event. However I never had a bike while I lived in Chicago. So we are planning on doing a ride similar to this out here in Northern Virginia. Now I say similar because it is going to have some differences.

This will be the first annual “Underwear Ride”

After talking to some fellow riders and bouncing ideas around we came up with donating new packages of underwear to a local shelter. The reason we came up with donating underwear is because it seems that everybody has donated used clothing to shelters before. But how many of you have donated your used underwear? I really hope everybody says no to that last question. Plus underwear is cheep and easy to carry on a motorcycle. For less than $15 dollars you can buy 2 packages of some type of undergarment. You can then stuff them into your jacket or in you tank bag and ride to donate them.

This ride has a few benefits to it. 1. We get to as a group give back to the community. 2. We get to help others that are not nearly as fortunate as we are. 3. We get to ride!

The route and the details for this ride are still being worked out. This is what we know so far.

Date: Dec. 15th (average hi temp in NOVA 47 degrees)

Time: Probably 11:00 am (should be warmer by that time of the day but still early enough to get home before it gets to cold)

Meet location: we are working on a good meeting location now. Someplace convenient to most all that will participate.

Ending location: Either the shelter we are going to be donating the goods to or “The Spot”

The Route: Will be determined by the starting location. We don’t want it to be that long of a ride and we don’t want to be doing many back roads since turning on cold pavement isn’t always a good idea.

The Rules: Bring at least on package of new unopened under garments. (Underwear (men’s or woman’s), under shirts, anything along that line. NO Stunting or Stupid riding. If you can not keep yourself under control don’t come. This ride is meant to help shed a better light onto sport bikes not make us look bad.

This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and help the sport biker image. I hope many of you can make it out and make it a huge success in the process.

Please do not whore this thread!!

I am not trying to whore your thread with this question. I know you said undergarmets i.e. underwear, but I wonder if you would consider socks as well. It is sort of an undergarmet, and from what I understand they are some of the most requested things by the homeless and in need.
Especially in upcoming the cold seasons.

I was going to offer myself as a chase vehicle also. I can't ride for a while due to surgery. If you don't need any I will just donate some stuff.

Just in case you have a ton of people in a wide area that all won't to participate you could have a couple different meet spots that will go to different charity locations. You could cover a wider area. I will take away from the look of a ton of bikes at the same place but could work well. Then you could have a middle meet spot for anyone that wants to hang out later. Not trying to rain on your parade. I was just throwing an idea out there.
