2015 Snowboard/Ski Trips - January 16, 2015, 08:27 AM

So last couple of seasons I have competed in some Snowboard Cross races and became addicted. This year I am trying to compete and collect as many points I can to see if I can qualify for Nationals, which leaves me traveling to different mountains throughout the season. I have a few friends that ride/ski but they are mostly day trippers that don’t want to lose out on their advantage cards, or vacationers that require more days and amenities. So if anyone is interested in checking out different mountains to ride/ski splitting funds always helps out with the budget. I am able to get discounted lift tickets for whoever is with me during each event, and in some cases volunteers get free lift tickets when they are needed. The events usually end around 12, so my hopeful plans are to drive up the evening before stay the night in a budget friendly hotel within 30min from the mountain, race, ride till whenever, then head back. Just about all the mountains are under 4 hours away.

Schedule:
Jan 25th – Wintergreen, VA
Feb 7th & 8th – Blue Mountain, PA
Feb 22nd – Massanutten, VA
March 7th – Holiday Valley, NY
March 8th – Blue Mountain, PA
March 12th to the 15th – Vermont Open Snowboard and Music Festival at Stratton

Yes, this year you have to register as a member with USASA. Its $100 for a year membership, or $35 for a 1 day membership but no points will be assessed. Last year you could compete as an exhibition for free, but for some reason they stopped doing that which makes me nervous because there tends to be a lower head count for my age group (not going to run open class just yet), which tends to be a good thing as the races switch from knock-out rounds to best scoring points out of 3 races. You can register at www.usasa.org and here are the schedules for the 2 series that are closest to us, which have several more disciplines that you might be interested in.

Smart kid; understands it's about marketing, not snowboarding.

This is true, but I also have come to find out it is also very political. More political then marketing. He is a big name, but if he wasn't there could be good chance you don't seem him again if he pissed off the right person. The move on the first jump was a big safety issue.

Anyone down for this weekend. Fun times. Blue is a great mtn. Also plenty of city life about 20 min out. Even cigar international lounge & bar superstore down the street.
