A heated vest, heated grips, and a thin belacava let's me ride in comfort down to around freezing. Below that I'd need to get a set of hippo hands or heated gloves for more than a short ride to stay comfy.
Went for a short 15 mile ride once at zero degrees a few years ago. I'd need an artic suit and a heated helmet to be tempted to try that again. My breath wasn't fogging my faceshield, it was freezing onto it... Lol.
There's bold riders and old riders, but damn few bold old riders.
My breath wasn't fogging my faceshield, it was freezing onto it... Lol.
Last night was brutal, less than a mile into the ride my fingers, toes, and knee caps were frozen. And as windblown said my breathe was freezing on the inside of my visor...
haha! uhg.
I have heated grips, just need to install them, though i think Hippo Hands might be a better solution for the winter.
Maybe run a silicon tube from my radiator through my seat too!? Haha!
Still better than a car...

Heated grips are great in tandem with electric gloves but can't do the job alone, especially if you are working the levers or covering them constantly. If you have an indoor battery on a tender you can rig an outlet up to it so you can pre-warm your gloves while you suit up before heading outside. You may even find yourself using those gloves when de-icing/driving your car....
Heated grips don't work for me, since I don't usually grip on bars fully with both hands. Even still, they are not good enough unless you have large windshield to block the wind.
Gerbing Hybrid T5 gloves (works on both batteries or wired) & Gerbing puffer. Bought both cheap on closeout. Kept me comfortable for the 1/2 hour commute this morning...I believe it was below freezing. Still can't believe how well the gloves work & my bike is naked.

I think I will ride Skyline Drive tomorrow once the AM rain tapers off. Start in Front Royal, VA and work my way down. Will either pull off in Luray @ 211 or continue on pending on how the weather is.
