Katie Ashton Memorial Ride - August 5th - July 9, 2006, 10:27 AM

We will be having another memorial ride for Katie Ashton this year on August 5th. Although I can still remember her infectuous laugh as if it were yesterday, it has been two years since Katie was taken from us on August 3rd, 2004. Last year we had a memorial ride which Chico and the Wulf Pak helped control ride / run and we will be doing the same this year.

About 2 weeks before Katie died, myself and her went out to Sheetz at Haymarket just to go catch some twisties one beautiful weekend afternoon. We happened to run into Chico out there so we all rode together and hit some of the roads out there in that area. This was probably one of the last real "rides" that Katie went on, so we wanted to celebrate what she enjoyed doing by taking the same route we took that afternoon.

Since we are expecting a lot of people, Wulf Pak will be there to help Lead and Sweep the ride. This will be a MEMORIAL RIDE. There will be RULES:

- We will be going SLOW. No kneedragging or stupidness. We don't want any crashes or anyone getting lost. If you want to ball out, this is NOT the ride for you.
- No stunting/showing off, etc. This is supposed to be a respectful ride for Katie to celebrate what her passion was - riding.

Last year we had well over 100 people show up. There was only one incident of someone running off the road. We will be running small (less than 10 people) groups with a leader and a sweeper. If you are a newbie and have *NEVER* been on a group ride with at least 8-9 people before, then please tell either myself or Chico. We will get you in a group that is smaller so that you don't feel over your head. Please also remember that we will be going the speed limit or less, so this is NOT a "baller" ride. Last year people ended up going out for their own faster rides after hte memorial ride since we were done by 1PM from what I remember.

Everyone will have maps of the route (which will be handed out at the meeting place, see below) so if you get lost you can catch up. It is a relatively short loop that we will be taking, so we will do it all in one try (no stops).

This will be a BIG EVENT. Last year we had well over 100 bikes on the ride.
I know Katie looks down on us every day and sees us having a good time out there on our bikes, just like how she would have wanted it.

definately there.

For anyone in Woodbridge or anywhere else close to this area, we left from Forest Park High School which is right off 234 in Montclair and took that all the way to 66 and then to Haymarket. Lets try to organize something like this again. We also picked up a couple people at the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center off 234. We can do the same thing or change locations depending on who is in. Please post up and let me know who would be interested in this.
