Maryland to Nova Scotia - July 28, 2016, 10:20 PM

13 days. 3,800 miles. August 13th to August 25th.

Since the S3 blew its motor I decided to buy a replacement bike and commit to a shorter trip. I've been adamant to visit the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia and so have decided to ride up there.

Learning how to use the Osmand app versus Google Maps because the latter does not follow my route road-by-road. So dang confusing at times.

The daytona encountered what seems to be a bad starter solenoid, blown main fuse, and probably a dead battery for now. I hate electrical issues with a passion but it builds KNOWLEDGE. So it's been running alright while sounding fantastic

Let me know if you're interested.

Sal,

The contacts in the starter switch on the bars had a carbon build up a few years ago. Its easy to open and clean. Its an easy check and fix. I would start with the easy things first.

Have fun. Hopefully you don't have tropical storm chasing you like we did back in 2006... and hopefully no bike issues. (Holy crap, it's been 10 years since that trip.... wow....)

Awesome write up! Did you find 13 days sufficient enough for the trip and how was it dealing with border patrol when crossing into Canada? Do you have any tips to share?

consider riding from Moncton to Quebec City since you are in the area. Theres not much between Moncton and Montreal.

I'm assuming you've done that stretch before. Anything notable to check out?

Yeah it looked fine when I checked it. Seems the solenoid was the issue so I swapped one from the S3. Brake master cylinder was also sticking but the piston was dry and the fluid was old. Changed all the fluids as well.

13 days was more than sufficient. The first couple of days we didn't get far because we were visiting with friends in PA.

Crossing the border wasn't an issue.

As for tips, take clothing for all conditions. ALL conditions. It should be warmer for you in Aug than it was for us but I was glad we'd packed our Gerbings on that foggy cold day with the wind.

Updated map and itinerary below.

Received some advice and read your ride report SxyRdr, lol

No major interstates until the last day where I'm gunna slab it home. New attractions include Mt. Washington, Kancamagus Highway, and the New England area. Skipping PEI!

Planned to take a one-day break at Lake Rangeley, ME and a two-day break in Halifax, NS. The trip might extend a day or two pending on if I can do 350+mile days repeatedly. 300 is feasible but nearing 400 might be tough.

I've put 1300 miles on this bike in the last two weeks+ I've owned it. It's doable just a matter of endurance.

The face you make when the guy says "we've changed our minds and are doing a shorter trip" and the shorter trip is to Nova Scotia and back.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

- Nicolo Machiavelli 1469-1527

Rangeley is a cool place. I've got a couple small cabins on doge pond. Super small quiet town.
