Nova Scotia - Round 2 - January 7, 2017, 01:12 PM

Two days before I was scheduled to leave for Nova Scotia the sprag clutch on my bike gave up the ghost. It left me unable to start the bike and ended my plans prematurely:

Maryland to Nova Scotia

This August 5-22, 2017 I'm planning to complete the trip. It's an 18-day journey covering 3900 miles including rest days. I'll be riding backroads with little highway 'til the last day going home.

Figured it'd be fun to do as a group, car and bike enthusiasts alike. However I'm planning to go regardless if no one can. So giving everyone an 8-month notice so you can put it on the calendar.

If you can't complete the entire trip feel free to ride part of it. The first three days alone should be epic. After that we'll mostly be in Canadia.

That does sound epic. I was going up to Piscataquis County Maine this July-August but always wanted to go up to Nova Scotia. I hear that Shediac, New Brunswick is nice and he Gulf Stream off of Prince Edward Island makes it good for swimming.

Will prolly do the swimming at Lake Rangeley in Maine. Prince Edward Island is on the list for Day 8 but I've had mixed responses whether it's worth visiting or not.

I've got plenty of time to research about it and come to a conclusion though.

How are you heading to Maine? We could ride up there together

Looks like a good time! I haven't made up my mind where I'll head to this summer for my long trip. It's going to be Canada, a portion of the TAT, or possibly Glacier National Park. I made the journey west last year and not sure I'm ready to tackle the plains states round trip again yet though so Canada is a strong contender at this point!

I remember reading your thread on ADVRider(?) the tiger had engine failure and you picked up the KTM correct.

There's a good amount of real estate to explore in Canada especially if you head north on an ADV bike.

Nova Scotia has always been of interest to me because of the John Cabot Trail so threw in a bunch of attractions for one big trip.

Yep. Still have both! Put a donor motor in the Tiger from a crashed '14 Tiger a couple of months ago.

Been to northern Maine in the fall. Never been up into Canada. I wonder how the black flies are up there in the summer? I've heard some places can be really bad up there but not sure what time of year and if it's mostly the interior, or west or east coasts.

Where in northern Maine did you go? I was considering taking 201 into Canada but it's somewhat out of the way:

Find motorcycle Roads, Trips and Events in Maine, USA | Maine Motorcycle Roads and Rides | MotorcycleRoads.com

I've been referring to that website for building a route. Doesn't seem like there's much in Maine so not particular about using 201 anyway.

Acadia National Park is on the itinerary for the 15th day.

Caribou, ME (for a bear hunt). It's in the NE corner of the state. Don't really have any route suggestions, it was ages ago.

How many miles do you have on the bike? I suggest you do plenty of test runs before embarking on such a trip, and join AAA or have some similar provisions through your insurance company. No fun to plan for months and break down a couple of days out having to figure out how to get home

I bought it with 14K and now it has 22K. It's only been on the road for 5 months and I've put down 8K in that time. Knock on wood, I think the bike has finally been sorted out. Just need to complete the valve adjustment @ 24K and lube the rear wheel bearing.

Yessir, I bought a AAA membership since the roadside assistance with Dairyland is whack. They will only tow to the closest authorized dealer - not a destination I've requested.

Edit: Leo, you're coming with me right

I'll be in EU or I would have strongly considered this.

Just over 3 months away!

I've got all essential gear minus a rain jacket to put over the leathers.

BigE will be riding the first half and we'll meet a 955i owner in NH. Coolkhas is tentative.

I'd say come for the first 2-3 days if you can't complete the entire ride. Take off Monday, August 7th and/or Tuesday, August 8th for your ride home.

Leo is bailing on me :'( someone needs to take his place

Less than three months out and we've got four guys confirmed including myself.

Living off used tires until the trip when I'll purchase a set of Michelin PR4s.
