Rattle the Runway 9-11 Tribute Ride - August 24, 2009, 09:54 PM

Anyone planning on riding this year? I was there last year and it's a great ride for a great cause. Here is your chance to pay tribute to the innocent lives lost during the tragic events of 9/11/01. I'll be heading down from Frederick and would like to see a good turnout of .netters.

Event details are as follows:

2009 EVENT INFO

This year's event will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Again this year, we will be staging in the rear of the National Air and Space Museum - Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center for our opening ceremonies.
After a police-escorted ride from Dulles Airport down to the Pentagon, closing ceremonies will take place in the North Parking Lot at the Pentagon. After the closing ceremonies, we will be able to visit the actual Pentagon Memorial after the closing ceremonies.
Motorcycle staging at the Opening Ceremonies location at the National Air and Space Museum - Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center will take place from 8:00am to 10:00am. The actual Opening Ceremonies will start at 9:00am.
From VA State Route 28, exit at the Air and Space Museum Parkway to a right turn at GATE 317. Once on Dulles Airport grounds, follow Police directions to the staging area. Click here for a map.
In addition, our friends at Devil Dawg Custom Cycles will open early (6:00am) and offer Starbucks coffee and bagels. From there, a Police-escorted ride will leave at 8:00am for the airport staging area.
This is an event open to all motorcyclists, and all makes and models of motorcycles are welcome. You do NOT need to register; just show up!

Our event will take place on the Sunday after September 11th due to several logistical reasons:
  • More people are able to attend during a weekend;
  • The South Parking Lot of the Pentagon would not be available for our use during a weekday;
  • The VA State Police would not allow for any road closures for our escorted ride during a weekday.
Additional info can be found at: http://www.rattletherunwayride.com/

Never Forget.

Hey Denny, I'll probably roll with you on this. That is, if you can stand being around me more than one day a week. And I'll even ask the wife to go along, just for you.

The Astles' are in!

We did the ride last year and it was phenominal! It was a shame though that we could not get into the memorial....maybe they'll make sure it's available and open to us this year.

And for Devil Dawg doing coffee, bagels & donights again for us!!

I went last year and met the Astles and Nubbs. It's a great ride for a great cause. We should never forget the innocent lives lost by those cowardly acts. If I had my license I'd be going again this year. Have fun guys.
