This Sunday, 11/15 - feeler - November 12, 2009, 08:40 PM

Ok, so this Sunday looks to be high 60's low 70's, according to weather.com in FFX Co area. Anyone interested in a ride. I'd like to meet some of you all.

Caveats...
1. I'm new and don't know the good roads, so someone else leading would be desireable.
2. My ability to ride depends on if I can bend my rear brake pedal back into place without compromising it's integrity (which I will be checking on tomorrow)

The above is why I'm calling this a feeler.

Summary of interest...

I think meeting at about 11AM should be good, location TBD. If David is up for leading, perhaps he can post a summary of the route he had in mind.

I'd say ride until we're hungry, have lunch, and then ride a little longer...whatever fits the route. Personally, I'd be good for riding from like 11 - 1, eat, then up to about 2 hrs after that. What does everyone else think?

1. david636 - leading?
2. WithBothFeet
3. mthril (maybe, depending on time of departure)
4. ReddRyder12 (maybe, depending on time of departure)
5. Thomas (?)
6. TripleThreat
7, 8. thesasse1 (and friend, Mike)
9. wildjester (maybe, depending on time of departure)

10 - 12. tiblot (and 2 friends) but only if leaving after 3, which probably is too late.

I think that's about enough unless David wants to take on more people, but keeping it under 10 is probably good since it looks like there may be a couple of beginners, including myself.

Per David: Lets meet at the Haymarket Sheetz at 11am. (Rt 15 and 66 intersection, roughly) No need to make it too early or too late. i think noon is too late. I tend to ride in the morning, eat something then ride back a different route. No backtracking allowed. I'm not sure of the route but I'll figure something out. it will most likely be back roads with standard VDOT lines. With the bad weather lately i would like to stay off the unpainted roads and the very back roads due to debris.

Pace will be chill with possible bursts of short speed.

We should try to leave Sheetz at 11:15. Anyone, any bike, any level can come. No rider left behind rule in effect.

I'm down for a ride. i know the roads and prefer to lead.

To bend your brake lever you should heat it up first if you can. Will help with not breaking the aluminum.

Brakes? I try not to use em..... what are they good for endos/ slowing for stair sets? If you need to slow for a turn just bang a gear or two and back it in!

(for the books I do obey speed limits and 98% of the time don't pull stupid shit unless I am on my own my bike is as fast as a turd but it is fun at any speed, not to mention it draws enough attention with the loud ass braap brap)

Bout time someone tries to organize a ride that is isn't A) exclusive (adv only w esoteric meet spots) or b) inclusive, but 600 miles long. I might be in if I can get a permission slip from the lady...

I'll be riding Sunday and can show you some good routes if you want. Though, I do not want to be followed by anyone with questionable brakes lol.

How long of a ride are you looking for?
What time are you looking to start riding?
Where are you leaving from?
What pace do you want to run?

You can live in your car, but you can't race your house.

You volunteered first, so YOU WIN!

to follow up on some of the other questions

1. Given the time of the year, best riding time would be as close to the middle of the day as possible, so I was thinking something like between the hours of 11 and 4, doesn't have to be the whole 5 hours, it would just most comfortable during those hours

2. Just looking to do a relaxed but not boring ride. Twisties are great and fun, but i won't be doing any of them at a high rate of speed.

3. No idea what roads to do, hope you all might have a plan for that

4. I'm in Centreville but if it's more convenient for everyone to meet up somewhere else, or somewhere in between then that works.
