Karting at Allsports - August 30th 7pm - August 8, 2006, 01:12 PM

We did this back in May and those that showed up had a blast. This time hopefully we'll have even more participants and we can do a team race.

As before I'm planning this for a Wednesday so as to not conflict with TWT or The Spot. With it on a weekday I can actually participate instead of working at the track, and just randomly flowing black flags at whichever DCSBNers I feel like. I realize weekdays aren't the optimal for some people, but believe me you will enjoy yourselves.

Allsports closes at 9 on weekdays and I don't want my employees staying any later than they have to so we will be promptly starting at 7pm.

Depending on how many people we get to commit is what kind of format we will run.
< 8 = Arrive and Drive
8 - 12 = Mini Grand Prix
12 - 16 = Sprint Heat Race
> 16 = Team Race

Arrive and Drive = 8 minute timed session, where you just try to get in as many laps as possible. Ultimately you're racing against the clock since everything is sorted by fastest lap time, but of course we'll be boasting about who passed who.

Mini Grand Prix = 25 lap qualifying session (basically a little more than an arrive and drive) where your fastest time sets your grid position for the 40 lap position race. Top three positions get a trophy.

Sprint Heat Race = 5, 8 lap position races for each driver where your grid order is completely random each race you're in. Your finishing position in each race earns you points and when the last race is over all points are added up to figure out the top three positions who all get a trophy.

Team Race = ?? number of drivers on a team that split up a 120 lap race where you pit every 15 laps to change drivers. All team members from the top three teams all get a trophy when the race is over.

As before I'll be getting us a discount on the price:
MGP = $65 per person
SHR = $60 per person
Team Race = $150 per kart (split between each team member)

No it's not cheap, but anyone that's ever been there can tell you it's a lot of fun. Especially now that Allsports has all new karts so they all are running even in speeds.

Typically there's a deposit required to reserve times, but I've already booked it for us so each person will pay individually when they get there so you don't need to worry about paypalling money beforehand.

Let me know if you're interested by posting here in the thread. Once we have it all figured out I'll put up a post with all the basic rules.

It might be "expensive" but it is so worth the time. Vehicle control and understanding snap oversteer/understeer and cornering dynamics are heightened during karting. Not to mention no worries about wadding your personal vehicle up on a track.

Definitely a great time, and Matt runs a great show.

What are the chances of getting a mini motogp event here?

If you mean the Curb Check Riders, doing a mini motogp I'd have to check. We can't do it during the day, it'd have to be on a Sat or Sun before we open so around 10am. We used to have the pocket bike league that raced there a couple years ago, but it folded. I can get an idea of the costs involved, and let you know.

With the new management that's running the show aka me and another guy it won't be as costly as these things were before
