.net is going Ice Skating! - November 10, 2008, 01:40 PM

i'm planning a .net skating event at the Ballston rink (Caps practice rink) in Arlington. The options are:
  • A Wednesday night during adult only public skate 8-9pm. Chevy's in the mall there has a hh special 4-7pm and then Rock Bottom has one till 9pm and Union Jacks will be opening up soon so we can drink afterwards
  • A Friday's public session is 5:15-6:45pm which is probably too early for most people.
  • A Saturday's public session is 7:15pm-8:45pm
Parking in the garage at the mall is only $1. We can get the group rate for $8 for admission and skate rental.

Another option is the outdoor rink in Pentagon City and they have a few places there for food/drinks before or afterwards and it's public ice all the time there so any time would work.

The problem with the Sat nite session is that it will be the most crowded.

And if you want outdoor rinks, there are a couple in the area... I don't know which of them run public sessions. There's an open-air rink in Wheaton and Wells (College Park) as well. Chevy Chase isn't open to the public (it's at the country club). Eventually, an outdoor rink will turn up in Reston Town Centre as well... and I've heard about one near the Smithsonian as well.

Fairfax Ice Arena has a Friday night session from 8:30 to 10:30 pm. When .Net went a couple of years ago it wasn't that crowded. Plus there are plenty of watering holes close by.

Just another location to think about

Those that don't care, seem to post too.
