Title pretty much says it all. Anyone in the DMV play rugby? Know of any good leagues?

I am asking for a co-worker that just moved to the area and is still trying to figure out the metro.

Is your co worker a male or female? How old?
I played rugby all through highschool, college and mens leagues (Played fly-half and full back...sometimes Inside Center depending on the team we were playing)

Also which type of rugby? Rugby League? Rugby Union? Sevens?
Different leagues/clubs in the area play different types of rugby

NOVA mens has a great team and well coached: NOVA Rugby
PAC (Another DC area rugby club): http://www.pacrugby.com/

Here is a list of most of the rugby teams in the area (Mens, womens, etc) Welcome to the Potomac Rugby Union web site

For college the best team in the area is:

George Mason University: George Mason University Rugby Football Club est.1965

I always wanted to play rugby, but I don't even know the rules. Maybe I'll read up and check out one of the leagues at some point.

I can coach, and build my own site my certs are probably lapsed by now, but I had a coaching and ref cert.

DC-MOTO gave up the big info. There are a lot of teams in the DC metro area, mens, womens, over 35s, youth etc etc. With a wide range of division within that. There's some (mens) D3s all they way up to 4 D1 teams in the area (Exiles, NOVA, Washington and PAC). Many of the larger teams have affiliated womens teams as well - MD Stingers, NOVA Womens etc

http://www.usarugby.org/club-directory - is a little better in tracking down the teams. PLenty to choose from in the area.

Basic rules are pretty simple. It's a game of possession and offsides. Good way to learn is go find a team - they will teach you. Or find where a match is playing, and make a friend on the sidelines to give you the run down - bring beer, and call it tuition

Started practicing/playing with the NoVA Eagles (Home - Northern Virginia Eagles RLC) and LOVE it so far. The rules and etc are easy enough to pick up. Can't believe I've missed on such a great sport all these years

Interesting, didn't even know there was a league presence in the area. FWIW - League and Union have some big differences. I'm not up on the league rules, but I think they are more simple as you don't have the details of rucking and mauling.

The international level play is Union rules.

I do find it a bit odd that they chose "Eagles" for the team name. That's the name of the national team. As far as I know no one else uses it - though don't think theres 'rules' against.

Glad to hear! I'm going to try and make a few practices this year as it really gets you in shape and the drills are fun. Just not sure if I can ever play another game though

They used to have a good website but they stopped maintaining it. Oh well. Love to see the program is still alive and doing VERY well!
