7-15-07 Mike's ride (MD) - July 16, 2007, 02:39 AM

Let me start by saying this was a GREAT ride. Thanks for inviting me Mike.

I'm gonna leave the details to Mike if he wants to post them.

It's gonna take me a little time to get the video together, but I made this clip for now...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...13476703627497

Soooo much more. I don't know how to keep the real vid under 20 minutes.

Sucky part is I didn't even get some of the best parts of the ride on film. The sweepers, the wheelie hills, the top end run, my motogp impression (aka my brush with death)... all missed.

ya - I sux wit da cam.

So my story is about my motogp imitation - or, maybe a better title would be "I'm such a lucky bastard!". I'm 3rd or 4th in the group when we come to a section of hills - each hill comes with a nice drop and we're doing a nice pace so you can ride a wheelie or catch a little air off of them. Too much fun! Well, I come to this one hill just like all the others, nothing terribly fast, and as I'm cresting the hill with the front end in the air I suddenly see trees in front of me. "FACK IT TURNS!!!". I happened to hit the hill in a good way off center and had a gentle lean to the wheelie in the direction of the turn (thankfully). So I begin the turn with my front coming down, and right after it hits the ground, I lean in quickly and maintain throttle - I'm way too hot for this turn I'm thinking. Every muscle tenses up - I'm fighting the urge to look at the outside of the turn and thinking "low side low side eeek" and then I it happens - the most badass and simultaneously "scare the shit out of me" feeling I've ever had on a bike. The rear tire slid out - and I don't mean that mild greasy feeling. SOB slid way the fack out! In my head => "OH SHIT! GOING DOWN!!!" Somehow, someway, I never let off the throttle, and the steering was just natural - and the slide was beautifully consistant, it wasn't sudden, it wasn't changing, the best I can describe it as was smooth - all of my panic just went away in an instant, and as the turn opened up and I began to lean the bike up I found myself naturally rolling on as usual. The rear wheel gave a sudden catch and the front end gave a couple violent kicks but before I even had time to think I was stable again... in my head => "HOLY SHIT I'M ALIVE!!!" I stood up on the pegs, sort of did an up and down hop and started slapping my helmet with my left hand. "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS BADASS!!!" It's amazing how quickly it all went - and yet at the same time how time just seemed to slow down in my head. It seemed like the wheel was sliding forever, but it had to have been no more than a couple seconds.

I was facking amped. Luck would have it, the leaders stopped not far from the turn and when I pulled up I'm pumping fists and acting all retarded. I had to get off the bike and jump up and down.

I've felt my rear tire get loose before, but that NOT like that - that was some dirt shit. It broke loose and stayed out there, way out there. I still can't believe I didn't wreck.

The only thing worse than feeling you're about to wreck, is avoiding the wreck by pulling something out of your ass and then finding out the film in your gah damn camera ran out 30 minutes earlier.

Mike/Nate - you guys were getting some serious air on some of those hills.

That ride was obnoxiously fun.

Just a guess...but it's one of my favorite. Travis, Mark....
