Hogs 4 Hokies ride from NoVa to Blacksburg - May 3, 2009, 11:03 PM

Saturday May 2, 2009 marked the second annual Hogs 4 Hokies ride in memory of the 32 victims at VT. This year’s ride was the first I ever participated in and certainly will not be the last. The reliable weatherman called for a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms all day in the NRV, but we had blue skies and warm weather for most of the day. The day started out with members of the Virginia Tech Motorcycle Club (VTMC) meeting up at the Car Show on campus. We rode to just north of Roanoke to meet up with Frank and his group of 200+ motorcycles from 7 different states. One guy even came from San Diego. We were police escorted by the great guys from Charlottesville Motorcycle Squad all the way to campus.

Arriving on campus, we were able to parade around the drillfield and eventually park in the middle so that we could gather for the speech at the memorial where the check for $15,000 was presented for the scholarship fund. Among the guests and guest speakers were families of some of the victims, professors, deans, and students.

We concluded the day with a trip to New River HD where we had a live band playing all the hits none of us ever heard of, a BBQ dinner, and plenty of Sweet, Sweet tea.
It was a great day and for a great cause. The money will help 50 students attend school in the fall--amazing. You can check out the website here: http://www.hogs4hokies.org/ where you can help by donating or maybe plan to attend next year.

There's an 'insert image' button in the posting toolbar - paste the url of the image in the dialog box that appears...

Well had I been at school, that would have been a 5 minute ride for me. Perhaps next year. Happy you supported Vt..

Thanks for the info. I tried to do what you said but the box with a red X showed up...not the picture. I figured out how to put them in an attachment instead. Thanks anyway.

No it was not. I wish I would have though because I know there are a lot of VT alumni on this board who might have been interested. I will post it up next year for sure.

I definitely would have been interested if I had known about it. I'll keep an eye out for a thread next year!
