So does everyone adjust their shocks accordingly before planning to ride two up? or do you all just keep it at stock settings? never ridden two up before so I was just curious because some have told me that i have to adjust the shocks before having someone else hop on.

don't have too. but its recommended. the ride is a little smoother. if you don't adjust them, you'll dive a little when coming to a stop, and the ride will feel bumpier than usual. I usually leave mine alone, unless its a long ride.

Just put an another lb or two of air in your rear tire and you both will be fine.

Remember that the bike will handle and react differently with a passsenger. More weight means slower take-offs, and more importantly, slower stops. You want to be more smooth in your inputs and give yourself more time than normal for the unexpected.

yeah i'm still kind of hesitant to ride two up. Haven't had too much saddle time. I was just curious about the adjustment that's all.

If you've not had much saddle time, I'd skip riding 2-up for a while. It will ascerbate any issues you currently have. Imagine your bike weighing 120lbs more with all of that weight up high. It's hard enough to learn the basics without someone who may fight you in turns. Get some more seat time IMO.

i agree, i've told myself not to ride 2 up in my first season of riding. how long before you all were able to ride 2 up?

I kind of had the same question. I was planing on setting up the bike for 2 up even though I would be solo for some time. Is that bad to do?

Time is not a good measure of experience... use miles instead... I didn't do any 2 up riding until I had 6,000 miles of solo riding in the city proficient enough with emergency braking and manuevering as well as parking lot speed manuevering.

2 up riding in the twisty roads is a totally different riding style...

Miles is definitely a better indicator of experience rather than time. Some people don't ride much in a year's time. And its all about comfort level. I rode 2 up with little experience but others may not feel as confident.

When you do decide to carry a passenger, start slow and small, probably like you did when you first learned to ride. Take short, slow, local trips first and then gradually increase your range. This will help both you and your passenger get used to everything.

Waiting to carry a passenger is great advice until you don't really have any questions about whether you'll be able to deal with the added complications. When you do decide to ride 2up, carrying an experienced passenger at first makes a big difference. They won't fight with you. I ride two up every day now and I still wouldn't feel super comfortable going out and really riding hard in the twisty bits with my wife (who is a pretty good passenger).

Back to the point. Yes, you should adjust atleast the preload. Set your tire pressures for what the book say to.
